What's the best power a non rebuilt STI has made?
Just wondering what power people have ran on standard internals and for how long before it took a dump.
I know past 350bhp on a classic the gearbox and turbo etc. will need doing at some point, I don't know what the STI engines are good for though.

As said, newage or classic?
Newage STI will see 400-450 for fun, clearly cars suffering "issues already present" will have a greater chance of termination when pushed a little harder.
I know of a few that have run 500 the marker, and I think one of Martyn's cars have seen close to 600 on a standard engine.

With some of those figures im thinking of buying a new turbo, getting a map tweak and then saving again for a 6 speed setup when the 5spd gives up.
I cant seem to paste my current car up thats in the for sale section.
Would 380+ be seen as ok on a v4 sti engine?

I ran my hawk WRX with standard internals at 410 brake for a month then turned the wick down to 380 brake and had great fun for 2 years and it never missed a beat appart from the 5 speed box ****ting itself once. Engine was perfect and i sold it running perfectly. I would like to know what its like now Reg no DU56 GNY if anybody knows ?

Didn't Harvey run a Classic at 450 ish with a 5 speed.
I would also say it depends how brutal your going to be with it, smash the **** out of any car and your going to break it, it's only a matter of time, and that includes cars with up-rated everything.

666bhp last time it was dyno'd but he thinks it was making more when it did the drag run. High "5**whp" that could mean it was pushing 750bhp.
TBH a top UK Scoob tuner was bigging up the 2.5 engine to me recently saying it's a cracking engine if you keep the tune safe. More I read about the much-maligned 2.5 points to boost creep and owner mistakes hampering it.

You can run a classic STI at around 390/400bhp on the standard bottom end.
The problem I think is with the boost pressure vs. the conrods. I think if you were on a budget and threw in some newage rods and uprated bolts you could run a fair bit over 400bhp safely on a classic STI piston setup.
After reading alot about the newage engines vs. the classic engines it seems as if the fancy hyperblabla pistons in the newage aren't as 'strong' as the original forged pistons.

Do newer UK Scoobs run the softer pistons due to cold start emissions regulations? I.e. they seal the cylinders better before getting hot? I've read forged pistons can cause low compression until operating temps are achieved.
Or is it a build cost thing?
