First off Hello all, my names steve and i bought my scooby around 6 months ago and am loving it. i did a bit of research on here before i made the plunge.

Ive always wanted a black blobeye and after reading about the later wide track i knew which model i needed to get.

so here it is a 2005 sti ppp with dccd. came completely standard with 50k on the clock and full subaru service. Ive since made a few choice mods which leave me with a very happy scooby

Meister R coilover
Rota Grids in 17" (imported in from America so they have a +42 offset)
vortex exhaust
front lip
Hella horns
k&N panel and a full service done by myself




Now finally getting onto the MPG....... i'm averaging 225 miles ish to a tank. since owning the car my average mpg is running at 21.33mpg

Ive done a load of searches and found that a lot of people say that you can increase the average by having it mapped but i'm never going to see the return mapping a standard car.

before i go any further i just want to say i'm not crazy on mpg figures and would never have bought a Scooby if i was but the reason for my questioning is, my friend with a 172 Clio got his hands on a set of 197 injectors and has upped his average mpg to 42 from low 30's.

Is there anything out there that makes much of a difference to the scooby? does the 2.5 engine run a more modern design of injector?

I am told that Subaru have to make some compromise on the fuel to allow you to run your car around Europe for example. If you get it mapped you can choice a specific fuel which will allow the mapper to get the best results.

If you go on to scooby clinics web site they give some different examples of spec (ie stage 1/stage2) and price. They also give you a list of what you need with a average bhp you can expect.

P.s car looks good ,keep up with the good work,maybe some big flames down the side would look good.lol

When I had my05sti ppp remapped (o/s) gained 40ish bhp and 50 ish torque run only on 99 Ron petrol. gained very small mpg but car was much better to drive,and then mpg goes out the window.

All I changed was the panel filter to k&n

Nah, it's about right.

Mine runs 400/400 and still does 25mpg around town, which can be stretched to 28 or so on a run.

2.5 litre forged engine.

Yep.
I was just as impressed with the torque. More than happy,in return for £300 (map)on a car I own and modded. (slightly) 18-21 mpg most of the time but 30 mpg on long run.

Mapping can give you better mpg as the mapper can lean out the fueling a bit when its safe to do so. The standard map will be pretty rich, especially the ppp map.

im also struggling to understand how your pal has gained 10mpg just by fitting bigger injectors. I think he's pulling your plonker there.

I've got a 172 cup and can easily see 40mpg+, as do all of them, even thrashing its **** off I still get low 30's ( which is most of the time )

My bugeye jumped to 320 from the standard (270 I think) with just a decat and induction kit and fuel pump. Not major mods at all.

You would believe he was yanking my chain wouldn't you but I work with the guy everyday and I know he's not. I don't think the 197 injectors are any bigger they just have a different spray pattern. The 172 injectors have two large holes and the 197 have a circle of small holes (from memory)

This is a direct comparison between the same car and driver and the only change is injectors. The average is over the last 6 months so not just a one off tank. I know he's not breaking any records with the figures but it's a good increase

I've been toying with the idea of an induction kit but from what I've read there's no need under 400bhp. May get one anyway if I do remap

Averaging around 33-36mpg but I've done a lot of MPG related mods. WRX is claimed to do a lot better than an STI though, not sure why? Heavier, shorter ratios and slightly more drag won't help.

I average about 25mpg spirited driving in my wrx ppp all the time, take it easy and it will p!ss 30mpg on a run 35 is no problem.

if you want better economy fit a boost gauge and pay attention to it and adjust your right foot accordingly, these cars can be driven quickly without drinking **** loads of fuel, you just need to change your style and carry the speed.

40mpg is good going from any performance car unless you stick a house brick under the accelerator pedal

Im not to sure, my Glanza averages 35mpg most of the time, I bet I could crack 40 if i changed my driving style, but driving off boost is boring!

And thats at about 180hp

I am aware of that, and I didnt mean that drastically change it, haha, I should probably use my starlet more often 40quid to fill up, 35mpg and still goes like stink!

Compared to the scooby 100-150miles to 70quid lol

my mates got one of those 1.4 with a load of trick bits fitted, really quick for what it is again he doesn't drive it as often as he should quite a rare car too

1.4or 1.5? I have a 1.5 engine I might build up if i cant sell it... With my turbo kit etc and the 1.5 engine Id see 275hp out of it! Scary fast lol

Glanzas are epic on fuel, mine was 250hp running a td04 and it still averaged over 30mpg
