from what i have just read on the net the spec c 16" motorsport edition should come with manual dccd,"throw away interior" ,and the standard subaru 4 pt fronts/2 pot rear brakes, and is apparently the lightest model at 1310kg.not sure if that helps, seems to match up tho except the 2002 bit.

mate im new to the seen aswell ,having come from a stage 3 330bhp astra vxr so im still learning.i have a jdm bug now and that is a 2002 car so thats the bit that does not add up,the blob i think is 2003 onwards?might just be a paperwork mix up.also from what i read the motorsport editions came like this so the rally teams/owners/whoever could make there own modifications to the cars seats/brakes/interior etc.im more then likely wrong but thats what i make of what ive read about them.cheers,ryan.

As mentioned elsewhere, it looks like the 16" version tarted up.
If it's the 17" version it should have ABS & Brembo brakes not the Subaru 4 pot fronts & 2 pot rears.

They basically produced 3 variants of Spec C on the MY03 car:-
16 inch Motorsport version - poverty spec and the one to avoid - Justy interior, steel wheels etc
17 inch which had all the goodies like A-DCCD etc - BBS alloys and the black/blue interior.
Limited, which had all the goodies and more - Black interior.
10k, far too much for a 16 inch, wouldnt pay 7k for it as they are not desirable, just avoid it.
The other 2 versions ive owned, both the 17 inch and limited are the ones to look out for, though the limited does have electric windows, mirrors, central locking etc

The first RA's were seen a poverty spec cars because they lacked all the goodies and were the cheapest turbo model available, those in the know knew that the RA was the one to have though for pure driving pleasure.

Tony when you say 'poverty model' is that how they were seen. Surely the 16" version is just an even lighter variant of an already great car ???

My Blobeye Spec C was a Motorsport version and no worse for it, they did a version of the Motorsport model which also had central locking, air conditioning and electric windows all round which is what I had.
Before I owned it one of the previous owners had fitted a blue STi interior, Prodrive PFF7 wheels and AP 330mm 6 pot brakes on the front, the whole design purpose of the model being to throw away / change out the parts that were not fit for the end use.
I think that there seems to be some snobbery about Spec C models, but the Motorsport model was designed for a purpose - in effect to be as light as possible and a blank sheet for alteration.

Really they are to be avoided because they were designed for one purpose only and that was to be stripped and built into a rally car, hence you got nothing with it (and hence it cost a lot less than the 17 inch version).

Just because something is cheaper or lacks a few 'toys' it isn't necessarily the poverty model, its just a cheaper varient that attracts a different buyer.
I get what you're saying Tone, I just don't think the phrase 'poverty model' is a fair one.

No transmission oil cooler? Funny that as mine had one, and as for the STi blue newage interior being desirable?
I think that some people need to check their 'facts' before passing them on as bona fine information.

What it comes down to is USE and weight I wish now that I had a spec c basic version, for the reason that every comfort that was in my sti has been taking out now,for how I will be using the car,so thinking back I can appreciate why Subaru would make certain models,as they were neck deep in WRC Motorsport.Just look at the cars there producing now.SJ.

the a-dccd was one of the things that made the spec c, if you have ever used it in anger then you know that you would never be able to do the same with just a dccd box as the auto corrects far quicker than you could with the manual.
But that isnt all, by the time you have thrown money at that car and got it near the spec of a 17 inch, it would have cost you more, its also stupidly over priced at 10k.
If you look at where subaru were coming from with the 16 inch version, grp A and grp N for the 17 inch (though neither were officially used, the GL/KL standard model was for 2003/04) you can see why it had nothing fitted.
