Default gauge fitting , live feed cigarette lighter

Quick question.

On a classic MY99, I need a switched live and was hoping to use the back of the cigarette lighter instead of hacking into the ignition .

Can any kind person show/explain a complete numpty when it comes to car electrics where on the back of the cigarette lighter is the live feed. I need 6 amps and up. I have taken the centre console out and have access to the back of the lighter but there are so many wires I don't know which one to splice into.

Thanks

P.S I did do a search but it made my head hurt

Got a nice new alpine unit that has lovely clean connectors. How easy is it to splice into one of those ?

As above, use the ignition live from the head unit block. The red wire I think, just cut it and then use some crimp connectors to rejoin them with the gauge wire in it too.

He is asking for more than a 6 Amp feed.

The standard head unit wiring will be fused at less than that.
