Better model of the Classics?
#1
Hi Guys/Gals,
I've decided to get a Classic shape WRX and wanted to know if there are any models i should avoid or favor? I'm tending to lean towards the later models, 99 & 00 just cos they would be lower k's. I intend to keep it stock to keep the missus happy , then i'll trade it in after about 5 years on whatever Sti model Sube have at the time.
I do about 800k's a week highway driving too.
thanks

MY99 was the best vintage UK car IMO. Phase 2 engine, no piston slap, less prone to hesitation than MY00+
Nice choice, speaking from personal experience I'd much rather have a bog standard MY99 than a standard MY01(bugeye) if it was a fun car I was after and didn't want to modify.

Classic WRX and STI wise if you are doing high mileages then stay away from the Type R and Type RA models as they have the shortest gear ratios of them all. This makes them blindingly quick through the gears (even quicker than an STi 7 ) but they can be noisier at motorway speeds as they are doing high revs. The 5th gear on my RA is about the same ratio as a UK 4th. Strangely enough also holding it value pretty well as recently I was offered a lot more for my RA part/ex than a new 2002 Euro WRX .

Be careful any classic shape WRX will not have any factory warranty as they were all grey imports and had no Subaru UK warranty. I guess you meant UK turbo version then ?.
