Default Identify this spoiler

i have a bootlid and spoiler sitting in the backseat of my hawk WRX. the spoiler is identical to this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item2a3ac5856c

is it genuine or a knock off? cant find much in the way of pics on google imags of this spoiler but it looks similar to a GC8 spoiler but fits new age and has the brake light up high.. its a friend of mine that owns it, i was going to buy it as expected the normal new age STi spoiler as he told me its a genuine spoiler but turns out its this spoiler, whatever it is..

anyone know what it is and if its genuine or likely to be plastic, FRP or fibreglass? also whats this type of spoiler worth as i agreed on 200 quid thinking it was a genuine new age STi spoiler. havent parted cash yet as im meant to bank transfer him the money next week after pay day but unsure whether i want it or not now as its not what i expected and im not sure if its genuine or what the story is. gonna take it out of the car now and have a closer look at it, see if i can see any part numbers or markings on it without having to take it off his old bootlid.

Hi there,

I've got the exact same spoiler on my Bug-eye (which came with it when I bought it) and it is not genuine. I believe that it is a replica of the version 6 (late classics) spoiler hence why it is slanted. I wouldn't pay £200 as the material is not that good, mine has cracks and so does that one which will only expand when driven over bumps, etc. Also my brake light had came out as one of the screws were corroded.

I think Scooby-Clinic used to sell them for around £110 unpainted and if I was you I wouldn't bother buying that one. You can buy a used STi one with a boot-lid for around £200, like the one that Carbon Fiber Creations is selling.

Regards,

Subaru Collector 555.

It looks like a classic STi spoiler to me, I've seen a lot of people put these on their New Age scoobies as they seem to fit them aswell as the classic. They don't look quite right though in my opinion, the proper New Age one looks in better proportion to me.

Defo not genuine and based on the GC8 spoiler by the looks of it!

Probably not worth a lot tbh, probably made from GRP.

This is my genuine STi one to compare it to

yea i know the new age STi spoiler just wasnt sure if this one was some sort of variant or prodrive or something. i managed to get it off his old dented boot lid (which now has more dents lol) and i dont know what adhesive was used on the bolt holes but f--k me was it a pain in the backside to get off. eventually got it off and pulled my WRX spoiler off and popped that one on for an idea. it doesnt look terrible but the way it slants in at the top when looking from the rear isnt that great looking to me.. side on or front angle it looks ok. it mounts in the same 4 holes as the WRX spoiler also.

dunno if its GRP/FRP because i was seriously prying/pulling at it to get it seperated from the junk bootlid. i took some pics on my phone, will have to upload them later. i think its an improvement to the WRX spoiler but ultimately dont know if id keep it long term or not. ill see what he says when i tell him its not genuine and 4 of the LED's in the 3rd brake light are out.. if he comes back to me with a fair price ill keep it and maybe get an STi spoiler later sometime. i could probably replace the dud LED's in the 3rd brake light handy enough so wouldnt worry about that too much.

i did want a genuine STi spoiler though, had planned to get myself a pair of perrin stiffies for it which would have tied in well with the longer term plan for the car looks wise.

let me know if those links dont work, hopefully they will as i posted the pics on a local site directly from my phone and wouldnt be arsed having to host them somewhere if i dont have to lol

depending on the price he comes back to me with i may keep it for the time being. if i do the prodrive decals will be coming off.

meh, was afraid of that. here they are anyway:

[img=http://s29.postimg.org/qy1qjaypv/spoiler2.jpg]

[img=http://s29.postimg.org/64zbuw66b/spoiler3.jpg]

[img=http://s29.postimg.org/4ndvjc1fn/spoiler5.jpg]

if i do end up keeping it i may add a gurney flap to the trailing edge. have found a proper one with the traditional L shape though needs to come from the far east. same idea as the few who have put the flexible lip spoilers on their high level spoiler but shaped like a proper gurney flap. fancied doing that to an STi spoiler also so figure if i end up keeping this for a while i may stick one on as can always order another if/when i pick up an STi spoiler.. unless i have gone full circle and decide i want no spoiler or a small spoiler/lip or something.

car doesnt look much at the minute with the big oops back bumper. have another bumper here in O2C but laquer is peeling on edges so getting it sprayed first before fitting. also will be ordering some decent wheels soon, something in the 18x8.5 to 18x9.5 ballpark with an offset of ET35 which should sit well once its lowered a little.
