I have standard sti headers.

I would be surprised if it made 385

What is the full spec? I wouldn't expect a VF turbo to get more than 370 bhp without any meth or porting on the turbo.

You may want to buy an upgraded fuel pump if you have not done so, 255lph should be fine but you can larger ones such as a 290lph which support higher bhp figures. They are relatively cheap at £70-£80.

How can you make that assumption without knowing the full spec?

I think 360-380 is a realistic target then.
Where would the ppp downpipe, standard headers and pink injectors max out at ?

I'm not too sure on the standard headers but the ppp downpipe and pink injectors will probably max out at around 380bhp. I would upgrade these just for piece of mind but also the car will achieve better results due to this.

On a old car of mine (newage sti) the PPP system became restrictive at 342 bhp, that was using a VF48 and 10% meth. I replaced it with 3" miltek system and map tweak for 20% meth and it made 370-380bhp.

That's understandable, I really wanted to see how far the ppp downpipe takes me what with all the regulations on decats at mot time.
I went milltek 3" decat on my last blob sti and made 345-350 with a ported vf35 but a complete pain in @ss when the mot was due.
My goal is 360 so anything above that would be a bonus.
Compression ratio has been increased during the forged build and I should be able to run more boost so I'm hoping those 2 factors will compensate a little for the downpipe and make the car a lot more drivable.

Yeah a stronger engine will compensate but a VF turbo will only push out so much power... A SC36/38 would have been a much better option IMO and I wish I went for once over the VF48 as I wasn't overly impressed with its performance.

A set of Harvey headers and up pipe will give you improved drive ability.

Good and bad news

Bob and simon spent a few hours mapping the car and after a detailed process of elimination have concluded that my ppp system is causing me a restriction.
The good news is that the car feels great to drive and just as quick as my last blob sti that was running 345-350 and the vf43 pulls early and strong but because of the restriction tails off a bit at the high end.
Guess i put a little bit too much trust in the ppp system and should have just swapped it out when we were doing the rebuild.
Everything is working fine, boost levels are great, timing is good and it really is a stonking engine so im very happy about that
As disappointed as we all were with todays result the figures dont actually tell the whole story.
Bobs advise was 3" milltek full decat and hes confident we should see over 360-370 bhp.
After taking 18 % away for drivetrain loss and something else that he said that ive forgotten he gave me a true figure of 305 bhp and 325 lbs.
Bob also pointed out that the restriction wont cause me a problem and that i should enjoy the car for now and get it tweaked when funds allow.

so, a mixed day but happy

You can always bank on something going wrong on a mapping session but it's only a minor thing and sounds like it's a well setup car now so no doubt you will have a big smile on your face

Bob Rawle was very honest in calculating a true figure, he didn't need to do that and said he would give me a bigger number if I wanted one.... Lol
The strange thing is it feels every bit as quick as my old 345 brake sti, if not quicker.
Makes you wonder if other mappers actually give you a true representation, I'm starting to think that some just smooth out the map, hike the boost up a little and send you away with a nice figure so that your happy.
Maybe it's my sceptical side taking over

Bob thinks the cat has most probably broken down with age and could possibly have been like that for a long time.

So 305 at the wheels ???
If that number has already had 18% deducted for drivetrain loss then that puts it up at roughly 370 at the fly does it not

Not sure buddie.
Just got back from a bit of a spirited outing and **** it flies !
All I can say is that it would pi$$ all over a ppp sti

I'm so glad I went the extra mile and had it all forged.
The vf43 feels great, hats off to Bob Rawle on how he's got it to spool.

18% drive train loss! On a 4wd car these losses get lower and lower I thought 4wd was 25%?

Tbh though no graph figure is worth worrying about as long as your happy with the way is goes.

Bob Rawle said it was between 18-22 % as a calculated total loss, he did explain this in great detail but it flew straight over my head to be honest.
He works on the worst case scenario and is very accurate with what the engine is doin and what he's done to get it there.
I now fully understand why simon at Chevron motorsport will ONLY use Bob to map his forged rebuilds.
I've been very impressed with the whole package and level of commitment and workmanship.
I've finally found somewhere that allows me to say " I wouldn't take my car anywhere else "
On a side note, it may be in my head but the Change in sound and rasp you can hear when your pushing the engine is an absolute joy.
I've not got a loud exhaust but when I opened it up yesterday people were turning round with that " what the **** is that " look on their face !
Brilliant

hi all,

A little update on my car, its now fully decatted with a hayward and scott 3" turbo back system ( sounds glorious )
Bob tweaked the map on friday and it made 342 bhp, not sure on torque figures yet as i could not get the time off work to be present for the mapping.
I will post the graph up when Bob emails it to me.
The VF43 spools slightly slower than the VF35 but its hard to tell on the road, the midrange punch is loads better than the 35 and is stronger all the way through.
Im very happy with how it drives and theres a few pops and bangs to keep you smiling.
Big thanks to Bob Rawle and Chevron motorsport

So here is the map of the vf43 on a forged 2.0
3" exhaust turbo back
k&n panel filter
3 port boost solenoid

Mapped by Bob Rawle... 342 bhp - 336 (lb-ft)

Thanks, cant say i want any more to be honest, a very usable power level with sorted suspension.

I cant speak highly enough of chevron motorsport, they truly do bend over backwards to look after me.
