Which one?

Both practical but 5 door more so.
5 door you can open the boot from the outside with out the key (has a handle on the boot)
both have child locks
5 door has much more body flex. Some would say get a strut brace but this has a big negative effect on the practicality.
5 door has a noisey cheap load cover. (to stop prying eyes seeing yer ice I presume) but if you look closely you can see the contents of the boot.
Boot space more on 5 door (well so you would think! Same size if you use the load cover and unless you use a metal screen then you can stack higher than the rear seats!
Why a 5 door? well put the seats down and thats why you buy one!
5 door slightly heavier therefore slightly slower (but only slightly)
both have the bright switch
Ran a 5 door ppp new from march 2000 until october 2001 and I enjoyed it very and I mean VERY much. But the p1 called and well...thats another story.

Personally I'd settle for a four door. Why? Another door on the car increases the risk of a breakin. Some insurance companies apparently won't touch them. My mate 'Keel'(the Kipper) got quoted 4500 for a 5 door Sport. Yet when he mentioned 4 door the quote went down to 4 grand. Weird eh?

never heard of an insurance company that would not insure a 5dr. I've owned both and would not go back to a 4dr now.
5dr is more understated and less boy racer - thats what does it for me, I like the naff roof bars and the fat looking bum it has - it makes the car look slow and middle aged.
I get less attention in it as well.

as said already the best bit about the 5 door is the less attention it attracts. As I don't have the luxury of a garage or drive (just an allocated parking bay) I feel a lot happier leaving it at night than I would a four door, esp with big spoiler.

Apparently the 4 door MY01/02 is 250% more torsionally rigid that the MY00, while the 5 door is 239% more rigid. Me, I'm very happy with my new wagon.....

Unless you have at least 5 years no claims bonus then insurance companies won't touch you on a 5-door. Mike told me at Tweetos Insurance that thieves normally come in via the boot. So they only insure 4-doors. Apparently this is mandatory practice. However he did say that if you get the lock removed on the boot, he'll be happy to take you on!! So if you need a quote on a 5-door I'll be happy to act as a go between(for a little commisssion mind you ahahahahahah).
