Henry's wagon project
We've finished it now, what do you think?
2.5 Hawkeye block stripped out ready to work on
Mahle pistons
Subaru gaskets, new water pump
ARP's
RCM oil pump
Short block assy
H beam rods
Head before
Head after
Building it up
Nice clean bits
Coming together
Details..
RCM headers
SC46
Washed engine bay, all ready
And the finished result! Complete with Perrin intercooler. Understated, just how I like it
More details..
And the figures, mapped by Martyn using Syvecs.
Many thanks Henry, it was a pleasure!

Alan you are a genius & whatever you do you do it with absolute excellence.
Your attention to detail is second to none & it is very encouraging to know that there are people like you around who are proud of their work, refuse to cut corners & are totally genuine.
To be perfectly honest it is refreshing to know people like you are around & I always look forward to the pics & work you highlight especially that scooter!!!
Keep up the great work you do & thank you.

Unfortunately Alan likes it so much he won't give it back! Only joking. The finish of the build is even better 'in the flesh' so to speak. The engine bay is just so much tidier as well - now looks like it's been laid out properly rather than just put together. It's also not just finished well where you can see it - when changing the oil the finish underneath is just as good with nice little details like heat wrapping back to the sports cat (Milltek exhaust so the cat is in the mid pipe) rather than just the headers and up pipe.
The car/engine was perfect from when I picked it up at 50 miles from ET and is getting better all the time.
The clutch does/did have a bit of judder when in heavy stop/start traffic (having to lightly slip the clutch) but this is going as the clutch beds in.
Can't wait to pick it up today (Alan???) and hopefully give it a bit of a run.
I can't fault the overall service from everyone involved and would thoroughly recommend AJ/ET - there's a definite pride/confidence in their work rather than 'just one of many' approach.
Fortunately for me AJ/ET are 30 minutes away from me as well.

Still running the 5 speed - was going to either have the 6 speed or something like an Albins uprated 5 speed setup put in but will keep the standard box until/if it goes - if it goes in six months (or earlier) I've lost nothing and if it lasts then happy days. Whilst I will use the car and the power available it won't ever be launched and no traffic light GP's and so on.
There seem to be a lot of differing stories with 5 speeds and the difference in 5 speed boxes (original 5 speed, Newage and Hawkeye) and there was a post on here sometime ago where the late Harvey Smith and Duncan at Dynamix (I Think) both stated that they had only seen one respective Hawkeye 5 speed failure each and there do seem to be quite a few people running decent power on 5 speeds (Martyn J being one of them on his classic - 2 years I think he got out of it but with some repairs - but not completely sure).
It'll be a good test to see how long it lasts

your car looks fantastic, I bought my gb270 as I dont like 6 speeds, find red instrument lights harder to "glance" at, and the gb270 seemed a great deal with all the extras, rear tints, alacanta/leather, satnav etc, and was near enough same BHP, but with more torque than the sti. will be interesting to see how the box copes,

Many thanks for kind comments, which I'm passing on to the chaps who do the work! It's a family business, and all my staff have been with us for many years. Our Andrew is responsible for the engine machining and building in this case, in fact his face accidentally appears in one of the pictures above!

Very very nice Alan & impressive power! I thought it was the GB270 too when I first saw it, really nice looking wagon. What exhaust is that and how noisey is it in the cabin? (if its not a blitz, otherwise I already know the answer!)

Simply awesome. Loving the detail. I wonder how much a rebuild like this would cost. ?
