My 2002 STi track toy
Well figured it was about time I put up a project thread....
I bought the car almost 2 years ago, in pretty much standard form, except for a BOV (which caused a few issues). When buying the car I knew that the brakes and suspension were on their way out and this was factored into the price, not a problem as I wanted to uprate them.
Here are the pics from the original Pistonheads ad:
The aim of the car was not a track only car to be trailered to and from events, although it might become that in the future. For now, I wanted a little more go (without spending too much), decent handling and good brakes, in short, I wanted a track car that had the creature comforts (hmmmm, not so easy). It needed to behave nicely on the road and be suitable for track/event days. I finally found what I wanted in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a "track focused" car, but with the creature comforts that we have all grown accustomed too, so I took my inspiration from that and this is how the story goes...........................
Brakes
Well the pads and discs were on the there way so this is where I started. I like the brembo callipers, so decided to stick with them:
*Performance Friction (2 piece disks) on the front
*Grooved discs on the rear
*Z compound pads all-round
*Goodridge braided lines
*5.1 fluid
*Full refurb of the Brembo calipers
However this is now a "sticking point" as the brakes are juddering and making a horrible scraping sound. TFS is dealing with the car and looks like:
*Skim front discs
*New rear discs
*EBC Bluestuff pads all round
Handling
The next thing on the list was the suspension, with the 2 OEM rear struts leaking, it was time for a change….
*BC coilovers
*Whiteline front 22mm adjustable ARB
*Whiteline rear 24mm adjustable ARB
*Front droplinks
*Rear droplinks
*Anti-lift kit
*Front strut brace
*Alignment setup
This setup is actually rather nice
Performance
I find the Sti a nice middle ground for performance and road use, but just wanted that little extra, which actually turns out to be a VERY slippery slope…. Because once you change 1 thing, you need a remap, but if you that one thing you may as well change 2 or 3 other parts. This is what was finally decided on, everything else is standard:
*Andy Forest TD06-20g turbo
*850cc injectors
*Walbro fuel pump
*1st decat
*Remap
This yielded some good results (355bhp at first, but then a faulty BOV was replaced and up to 370ish), just not good enough for me
So with the car at TFS, I figured now would be a good time to change:
*FMIC
*Induction kit
*Full 3" decat exhaust
*Remap
This will hopefully get me to 400BHP
Future plans are, 2.1l forged engine, slightly bigger turbo, standalone ECU…
Interior
Now the interesting part, the interior… This was always going to be a balancing act between weight and creature comforts. So with a line down the middle of the car (literally) everything in the back was removed and the front was left alone with a few minor exceptions:
*PSI3 unit added to monitor the ECU
*Rollcage for the rear half of the car - nothing in the front half
*Corbeau revolution seats the large ones for additional comfort - standard seatbelts retained for normal driving
*TRS harnesses
*Rear seats removed
*Rear firewall
*Panasonic USB headunit
*5.25" Apline front speakers
*5.25" JBL rear speakers
*6x9s rear parcel shelf
Exterior
And the finally stage was the exterior of the car some subtle changes and then some not so subtle changes………
*WRC style carbon mirrors
*Carbon inserts for front wings
*Smoked side repeaters
*Mudflaps
*Blue wheel nuts
*Front tow hook removeable
*Rear tow hook
*Painted calipers
*Road wheels - 18" Rota GRA Wheels with Toyo tyres
*Track wheels - 18" Team Dynamics wheels with Toyo r888s
*And a full detail….
Hopefully the car will last for a little while like this, for some local events
Some pics... will take some detailed pics once TFS has finished

Wanted to wait till after this batch of work was complete, but been getting too excited and decided to post up anyway
Should be 1-2 weeks then she comes back....... then its time to book some driver training days and some track days, down Brands Hatch way.
Will post up the dyno charts once the final map is done and will go take some proper photos once she is back.

Well got a little bored after an afternoon cycle, so got some interior photos and some videos. Not the best quality and car needs a clean.... but here they are (pics first):
New FMIC
PF discs, bluestuff pads (not visible obviously), refurbed brembo calipers with Subaru decals
Engine bay (needs a GOOD clean.... anyone recommend a place down south )
Front seats (overkill YES, but I like them) need to change the steering wheel as its now too big!! and no sliders, these bad boys are bolted in place
Rear - stripped, firewall, rollcage (still need to remove seatbelts and clips and finally carpet the entire section)

I need to replace my blitz before mine will be truly track ready, but I have a few other jobs first so no rush yet, but even the less strict ones are now putting limits on

Only one worth fitting on a budget for trackdays is the Revolution system. Quiet as you like Just removed my double silenced H&S scooby sport for one of these as even the H&S set up I had is 102db. Even though it clears, its sailing close to the wind when you take into consideration atmospherics and varying testing

I want something that provides the burble, doesn't drone on a cruise but is a little mental on WOT and meets track day regs, I need to listen to a few and make my mind up
