2.5i into a 2.0i sport?

2.5i into a 2.0i sport?
Need some help -keeping with non-turbo engines, wondered if it were possible to drop a 2.5i SOHC engine into a 2.0i SOHC sport? MY2000-01.
Ancillaries look the same, plugs on ECU look spot on too -different ECU obviously -vehicle is a VW bus BTW, have already rewired engine loom and done 50,000 in last 3 years -looking for a little more cruising power, all looks so similar and on these dark winter nights the mind does wonder . . .any help be appreciated.
