Default My Project

Not really taken pics of the process as I've been more interested in getting the jobs done

My track toy, its been built to a budget and hopefully designed to be reliable. I'm not really interested in chasing power as its self defeating IMHO

I'm out for having fun rather than fixing it all the time. LOL

Spec so far,

Polar chip
Front Mount I/C
Cone filter, (wanted to keep std airbox but it was never going to happen!)
Aircon deleted
One rad fan removed
3" decatted stainless
Fuel Swirl pot
External pump
4 point harnesses

Interior stripped
OMP cage
Rear Bulkhead fitted and sealed
Sound deadening removed
Interior painted body colour
V3/4 type r splitter and rear spoiler
Carbon door mirrors

KYB AGX dampers
Perrin ARB's front and rear 22mm and 25mm
Going to add extra caster soon, when I can get some bolts ordered.
Solid drop links
Camber set up front and rear

Gold Brembo's on the front
STI8 master cylinder
PF pads

2006 gearbox fitted

Rota track wheels with 888's
Speedline Corse Wheels Yoko's for the road

Weight with half a tank 1250kg (but front mount and swirl pot fitted since)

Very nice mate, love the wheels

Was the Sti 8 master cylinder a straight swap?

Interesting, I have the original MC with my Brembo conversion. Looks a good honest track car, well done. Not a fan of the pipercross filters but they are affordable in the spirit of things. Was the weight before the cage ?

4 pot cars have the larger M/C anyway.

Yeah I agree about the filter, I wanted to keep the std airbox as I think there best but space limitations dictated by the pipework put a stop to that. Yeah I could have changed the pipework but I couldnt be bothered. LOL

Weight was with the cage, but without front mount and swirl pot bumpf!

I will weigh it again soon so I'll get an updated figure.

Cool, my wagon STi had 2 pots then converted to Brembos. Air box is good but when you see how short the throw is into the wing on the V2 there's not much in it to make it worthwhile tbh. The engine bay on the V2 is that draughty anyway ! I won't post a pic in your thread but this is where I put my filter right in the front to take in the under bonnet air coming side and over the removed rubber light strips.

Looks pretty good.

You get a lot better brake feel using the later cylinder

When I did mine I sripped out the sound deadening tar crap and it filled one of them very large shopping bags.... weighed the bag with a fishing scales and it over 15kgs.

Cheers fella.

Box works a treat too BTW

Only time will tell how close I get. The goal is the mid to low 1.40's around Cadwell

Did a track evening on the 15th around my local (Cadwell), the car performed fantastic. No real issues at at all.

Given the traffic a no meaningful comparison times where set (not that i time at a track day )

The ratios in the 06 wrx box are longer than my old 95 wrx and 00 Forester boxes, I must admit I prefer the early ratios best as for me they give the best feeling on track.
Sometimes I feel I'm in between a gear and given the power I have I cant get 5th on the back straight. I hit the limiter once or twice in 4th just before the braking zone and given the ratios thats approx 125mph so for me not bad.

Again the Gold Brembo's where faultless with PF pads in the front and no-name in the shonky OE sliding rears..... Oh thats with 25C ambient using DOT 4 fluid.

The addition of a front mount made a good improvement too, never saw above 45C not bad given the ambient temp.

Best of all no fuel surge even down to the bottom of the fuel gauge, guess that means the swirl pot system I've installed works a treat, before that anything less than half a tank made it splutter around Charlies on to Park straight.

I thought the 888's would be finshed too, given the wear I reckon they will last another couple

The future?
Less weight
Plated rear diff (as I seem to lift a rear wheel)
May fit some P1 springs just to lower it 20mm?
Composite seats.
Slicks (clio cup ones)

Well unless I find a good Sunbeam Lotus or Chevette

Just completed another track evening at Cadwell.

Went well some really good laps with an "ABW arched" classic reg MUD75, Not sure I believe it had 450bhp though.........

The only problems encountered where boiled steering fluid, need to look into a cooler and a slightly weeping gearbox driveshaft seal, reckon I must have nicked it when fitting given the milage its done.

A steering cooler has now been bought and just needs fitting so all should be well for Cadwell on the 11th Oct.

I reckon it may finish off my 888's though, not too much of a problem as it will be its last outing this year.

I've also decided its time to sell as I need something sensible for the forseeable and the go to work "bomb" wont cut it.....!

So you can see the work and standards, so PM me if your interested.

Well thats that......

Its always sad to see a car like that go, its been a right laugh and one of the best motors I've had.

I wish the new owners the best of luck and hope they have as much fun as I've had.
