Default RaceDynamix .. Time Attack Club Pro 2010 .. Project

Well, here we are again in the build up to another Time Attack year and thinking about what needs to be done.

Although a lot of the work hasnt even started yet, preparations for this year started a long time ago with the work that was done on the car to get it ready for last year and the improvements made during the year.

So, what is going to change this year ?

As I have been asked to move up to Club pro, I will need to change a few things to comply with the regs:

- full cage
- plumbed in extinguisher

These arent biggies but they do mean that the car will lose the interior and spoil it for daily driver use. Bit gutted about this but havent got much of a choice. I will see if it can retain road use as I love driving it.

Full Spec so far:

* custom linered EJ257 block prepared and built by Zen Performance
* lateral performance sti crank
* lateral performance conrods
* mahle pistons
* ARC shells
* ARP Head Studs
* Zen Performance Dry Sump System
* o-ringed cylinder heads
* std sti heads / cams
* lateral performance MD321V turbo
* lateral performance tubular manifold
* lateral performance uppipe
* APS Induction
* APS Intake pipe
* APS DR725 FMIC
* Cusco Twin Plate Clutch
* Setrab 25 row Oil cooler
* Setrab Fuel cooler
* HEL braided hose
* HEL fittings
* Fuel swirl pot
* Fuelab Prodigy Fuel Pump
* Fuelab Fuel Filter
* Fuelab Fuel Pressure Regulator
* Walbro 255 lift pump
* SOLARIS S6 competition ecu
* BC ER Series competition suspension with camber/castor adjustable front and camber adjustable rear
* Zen Performance custom suspension modifications
* Perrin 25mm ARB’s
* Ksport Brake 356mm front / 330 rear
* AP racing front discs
* Performance Friction 01 compound pads
* Hyperzero 1 – 9 x18 Wheels
* Toyo 888 tyres
* Custom bodywork by Autobodyworks
* APR Rear Wing
* Custom front splitter and underbody aerodynamic devices
* SHP Custom Cage
* Corbeau Sprint racing seat
* Ksport Harnesses

This year I will be running E85 again as primary fuel for all events and will be aiming for 600bhp eventually during the year. There won't essentially be any major changes engine wise although I am planning on removing the engine for a refresh shortly just to be safe.

Improvements:

__Weight__
Weight saving will be the main focus with stripping interior and also replacing body panels for special ones from Daren at ABW along with polycarbonate windows. This should see a significant drop in the weight of the car and a lowering of the centre of gravity. Daren will also be tasked with a few tidy up jobs to repair bits damaged during the year last year - wont take him long though

__Handling__
Handling to be improved by fitting of BC ER series suspension with correct spring rates for the levels of downforce, power and grip. It had always been a big compromise running the exe-tc fast road kit on the soft standard springs and resulted in quite a lot of rubbage ...

Especially at Brands and Cadwell:

So more suitable suspension from Bren at Apex Performance in the form of the BC External reservoir coilovers were fitted by me last week. (BC Racing : ER Series External Reservoir Coliovers) These have the new castor and camber adjustable front top mounts as well as camber adjustable rears. I had never been able to get enough rear camber on the previous set up - this not a problem now There is also a lot more adjustability in the damper characteristics which will be useful in setting it up properly on track.

I have driven about 1000 road miles on them in the last week and love them thus far and they are almost set up right for the road now. I still need to get the geometry set but will be doing a track test next week on them and fine tuning that based on tyre temperature data.

__Braking__
No improvements needed - still running K Sport brakes and Performance Friction 01 Pads.

__Other__
Improvements will be made to other bits such as controlling the DCCD through Syvecs(Solaris) via a separate calibration switch, and feeding other inputs into the ecu to help get better data back from sessions on track.

There will be other improvements too

Huge thanks for support for 2010 to:
  • Lateral Performance
  • ABW
  • Apex Performance / BC / Ksport
  • ASPerformance
  • Syvecs
  • Keith Michaels
  • HEL
  • 2clearbuckets.com
  • CJS Norwich

Looking forward to the year

Cheers buddy. It will be an extremely tough job to do that in club pro seeing some of the other cars/drivers in there. I will be thankful of a podium during the year.

Hopefully a proven package that I have had a huge amount of seat time in will allow the best to be gotten from it.

Duncan,
looking at that engine spec I can see where you have gone wrong!!,I am willing to swap my

18k miles engine for your slightly dodgy race engine at no charge!! (the only cost to you

would be the swap of the two engines), I really cant say fairer than that!!

As for the weight saving!!

On a serious note, Good luck for this year!!!

Good luck Duncan!
What happened at the top of the mountain at Cadwell?

Oh and don't forget, spray it red and you'll be fine!

you mentioned body panel changes just wondered if you were refering to the bodykit being changed to the one on my car?

Why would I want to change the bodykit from the one that I designed with ABW? I love the way mine looks but it aint about looks. Any changes to panels will be for a purpose - ie weight.

Good luck Duncan

It will be interesting to see how you get on this year, but you also have some excellent support which should go some way to reducing your lap times.

Out of interest do you have a benchmark lap time for the car with someone else driving?. I noticed previously you'd spent some time having some tution. (Not having a dig at your driving, just interested)

how did that dry sump work out in the end, i may look into it just waiting for your feedback before purchasing one.

Feedback had already been given on that Utaka. Ran it at Snetterton in TA last year and has been on there for about 4000 miles so far and will be on for this year too.

I have my own targets for lap times for this year - these wont be published but suffice to say the target is less than last year's actual times. I have analysed what I did last year from in car data, photos and videos and worked out where improvements can be made.

Phil Glew helped with tuition at the start of last year with a day at Snetterton but the planned tuition during the year didnt happen for varying reasons like engine being out and a track day cancelled the day before grrr. Tuition was very useful as was the feedback from phil the year before last when he drove the car at brands to help set it up for last year.

Last update was in december after having the kit on for two months including Snetterton (having one of the worst oil surge corner in the uk) and cadwell park (also a nightmare for oil surge through two consecutive high g right handers)

Goog luck duncan next year , i think its a bit of a farse you have HAD to move up in your dailly drive car ?
People complain about certain cars in club challenge, but i think there is a even bigger gap in club pro , look at james nichols car or even mike duxburys they could easily be in pro.

agreed paul was very helpfull to me when i was enquiring about this item.

good luck this year also dunc, you did surprise me last year with how much you have improved from the year before, and i was also impressed with how reliable you were. i think 600hp will take away some of that reliability thow mate, hopefully not thow.

have you decided on what turbo you will be using to achieve 600hp also what injector size are you planning on using as my 1100cc inj were flat out on mine at 638hp on v power at 3.8 bar static fp. e85 is considerably more dence so more injector would be required, i would pressume.

Thanks

lol - have you stopped screaming though

Andy - turbo wise ... I will stick with a std position 321. Hopefully the extra 50bhp wont push it too far beyond reliable. It had one major issue last year with the blown engine at Knockhill but with good team tactics thanks to Paul and Team Zen during the weekend I scraped a podium there on the 1 hot lap i had in it.

Injector wise - mine are running about 1200cc at the moment - there should be enough in them to cope with 600bhp
