Default Project RA 09

A few pic`s of what has been going on before and after we collected the car.

As I am the owner of this project it has been at a stand still for a while, but we are now moving forward again, a few items have been collected today from Peter Lloyd Rallying, at very keen prices, well worth checking him out for your safety equipment, Ect, Ect.

Things are coming along slowly due to needing a new bottom end on the Type R. Need to sell the old blue one to fund the track project. I had the money to finish it off but now need that to pay for the rebuild!!!!!

I've kept a eye out for bargins and managed to pick up quite a few:

Link ECU (Anti Lag and laugh control option)
TSL anti-lag sport cat
TSL centre Pipe
AVO coilovers
Whiteline Front ARB
Rear Alloy Drop links
K sport 8 Pots with 330mm discs
Brembo 2 pots for the rear with 315mm discs
17" Rota wheels with Dunlop 02G track day tyres
17" P1 wheels (To be fitted with a good wet tyre)
Defi Oil Pressure, Temp and boost + Commander
Fiber Glass boot lid
RA Roof Vent (As this is a WRX RA)
Face lift parts (As I don't like the early look):
STI Version 5 bumper
STI Version 5 Grill + Badge
Genuine Crystal Lights
Crystal Side lights
Crystal Indicators
Clear side repeaters

The car is pretty bare inside at the moment, Still some more to remove

I'm looking to get the cost down to under £5k including the cost of the car

5k all in, sounds like homes under the hammer, best of luck.

Thought about going back to a escort, but have you seen what it costs to build one today,

Know what you mean, it seems to take ages to piece it together, think mine is going to come in around the 10k mark, as the only major item I was missing was a engine, infact have been speaking to David at API today on the phone, going up tomorrow to finalise, will be a new build 2.5 with V3/4 STi heads, WRC cams, the turbo is yet undecided, not looking for balistic power, Torque is the name of the game. may have to change my gearbox to a s/c dog box........................that will blow the budget

John

Ps...........Like your shopping list, will it be caged, ect, ect....

David will look after you, My Type R is up there having it's rebuild.

The RA will have a full weld in cage, Will proberly have the same cage as you but i'll have it installed locally, theres a company about 0.5 mile from where I live that does alot of metal/steal fabrication (Barns etc) but they install cages/prep rally cars and also run a group N impreza in the british/welsh rally championship.

They've always got a couple of rally cars up there having work done.

I'm not going to touch the engine or gearbox on mine, unless they break.

Maybe some bigger injectors and then a remap, I'll be happy with about 330BHP with similar torque figures

I was getting a puff of smoke when coming on boost and it was drinking oil. so took it scoobclinic for them to have a look as they had done all of the work on the car.

Scoobyclinc think one of the cylinders has balloned, this happened last year during a mapping session when the boost was cranked up using some meth.

So it's at API having a rebuild: new block, bearings, rings etc, but reusing the crank, pistions and rods (providing they are okay)

Theres a few other things that need changing: the oil catch can was way to small, a new bigger one with a sump return is going in and the air filter was too small and only fit for the bin, so a new bigger one is going on

Next job is to plumb the lifeline system in, has to go this side as the exaust system comes out the side behind the co-drivers seat.

Hope to start on the suspension and rear end setup this week, just need to go collect a few more items, begining to feel a lot more happier about the project now as we can see it starting to come to life, got to get up to see David at APi this week to finalise the engine spec, then the big decision do we go for a s/c dogbox, my budget says no but my head says yes. ( need to talk to my sponsor, have done the washing, cut the grass, need more brownie points.)

So the freshly rebuilt box in the workshop could see its self helping in funding the above.

John

Ps, on the look out for carbon door panels, if any one knows of any could they please let me know..........

Right a decision has been made on the engine, its going to be a 2lt (CDB), cosworth pistons/rods, ACL bearings, cosworth crank, with STi V3 heads, (which will under go rework inc big valves), cams to suit the gear ratio`s, which are being made as week speak, sump baffle, Modified oil pipe pickup, RCM oil pump, kevlar cam belt, uprated water thermostat, cosworth head gaskets, plus what ever I have forgotten.

John

More to follow soon............
