Default One for the DIY knowledge base-Chassis structure

Heres a question for you lot that like to do the extreme to our scoobs.

is this bracket needed for support/structure ?? (not my car/pic but its the same)

Reason i ask is i have fitted a newage TMIC and it hits this, so i too mashed it with a hammer, got the TMIC to fit but the y pipes underneath still hit/rest on said bracket and its casuing vibration/excessive noise thru the bulk into the cabin.

can i just whip it off and be done with it,it seems you can whack it/mishape it so i dont think its structure based ?????

anyone any thoughts ?????

cheers

It is needed.

But you can use some washers to raise the intercooler slightly. Also another thing you can do is to shorten the pipe that goes from intercooler to throttle body this will give a bit more room

I did all of the above when fitting a newage intercooler to my classic some years ago

Depends on your engine mounts and gearbox mounts. John Stevenson has removed his entirely but he is running solid engine and gearbox mounts and its not a road car.

Cheers all for replies.

i sorted it, i did the rectangular jobby on that gearbox support bracket, works a treat now, i just bent the outer side bits inwards so its still supportive and strong just a different shape, intercooler fits straight away,no jiggling or anything required.

sweet !!!!!

cheers again all

yeah,it seems a few people have had to adjust fittings when this mod is done, reading some threads, some have a measurement of x and some require a different measurement on the same pipe/piece/bracket adjustment etc,all weird,some1 was probably **** eyed at the factory when making these cars ha ha !!

Had a good look at mine today and I think it may have been "adjusted" it has been dome fairly well and then repainted. The TMIC was on the car when I bought it so was probably done by the previous owner thats why i was unaware that this was needed.
Glad its all sorted though.
