STI 6 RA project
Got myself back in ownership of another RA recently.
Version 6 Ra STI, almost identical to my old V5 STI RA, just bigger wing on the boot!
Shes never turned a wheel in the UK since she came in almost three years ago. So not a mark underneath her, I wiped an oily rag inside the arch and it came up like a new penny. Bonus
Thanks to Adrian Wilkins for the car
Shes got an OMP cage that has been fitted by M Sport's welder/fabricator.
Hes made an amazing job of the welding. Top quality stuff!!
Sitting on a set of Bilstein Coilovers and Speedline Corse wheels with P Zeros.
Cusco roll bars, Front lower brace and rear strut brace.
Just fitted one of the Toora seats with the Prodrive mounts. Light as a feather!!
Also got a set of 6 point harnesses to match(also Toora)
Got a smaller Sparco steering wheel to be fitted once I remove the Momo airbag one.
Also has a nice set of mirrors. Hate the look of the massive ears that they come with.
Jobs to be done now consist of....getting the dash sent away for the flocking.
Fabricating a system from the downpipe to the rear.
The Co Pilots seat bolted in and the foot rest fitted too.
The harnesses need fitting.
I will give her a full service just shortly. Timing belt, the lot. Good to start on a fresh canvas I always think.
The geometry needs set up, but I dont have adjustable top mounts, so I will hold off on that untill I get a set.
Before the dash is re fitted I will set about striping out the Aircon parts and any unnecessary wiring in the loom.
Door cards, Im unsure about. Cant decide whether or not to go for the CF ones. A bit of a luxury having them!! Will see if I can get a good deal on them
This project will probably be spread over the next twelve months as I wont be able to throw as much time and money at it as I might like.
A new addition to the family in the next few weeks plus the busy work load we have ahead of us this year will combine to make it a lower priority.
However, once I get the garage built in April it will make it easier to nip out and do an hour here and there. It will all add up.
Im confident she will be on the road for late Spring once the essentials are done and I can get someone to map her for me.
There will still be a lot to do but I can work on that over the months that will follow.
The goal is to have a car built to the equivalent of a Grp N car, without running any restrictor as I dont intend entering her (at this stage) into any events.
I want to run a car that's using a standard bottom and top end.
Look at the best options for reducing and maintaining a respectable charge temperature by using a decent top mount and keep any heat out of the engine bay and reduce heat soak as much as possible.
I have a few ideas I want to try out, such as re locating the P.S pump and driving her electrically.
Moving the header tank etc.
All will take time and a little trial and error.
The objective is to have a safe and reliable car at the end of the project.
Im not looking for a 500hp car.
I will be happy with 350-400hp and Lbf.
If shes mapped properly and has the added bonus of running ALS then Im sure it will make for a good all rounder.
The car will be road legal but trailered most places for obvious reasons.
Im looking forward to turning one of these cars into what sold so many of them in the first place. The real deal Rally car!!
I will add more pic's and info as time goes on.
Like I said, updates will be irregular due to work and family.
I will get there in the end though. I will make sure of it!!
Hope it makes for a half decent read.
Thanks
Jamie

Hi Graham.
For the next six months ,ATLEAST, I will run the stb box.
Before I get her final map session I will look at options such as a modena,PPG,Hewland etc.
Once I decide what the car will be used for I can work out what ratios Im looking for and see who can meet the requirements.
I had always thought that a sequential option was out of the budget , however after looking at some prices there is not a great deal in it from what I can see.
If I could source a re con unit then I might have seriously considered it.
It will depend very much on whether or not I want to spend the money on it at the time.

LOL. Cheers guys.
You make it sound like the end of the world.:P
Im in no hurry to get the car up and running in full spec.
Bit by bit. Quality and not quantity for me .
Will try and get some more done in the coming week in between work!!
Exhaust fabrication and cage removal along with the dash will be on the cards I think.

Not much to report on the work front.
Managed to stick the front flaps on and get the Sparco wheel fitted.
Also fitted a set of SS brake lines.
Thats been about it!!!
Oh, reduced the ride height to its lowest setting while I was under the arches too. Still needs geometry set up though.
Next month should see the exhaust system fabricated and the Geometry set up.
Followed by a full service and then she can go for a test run at Knockhill in April (ish)
Over and out

April update
Well, not had a load of time to do much to the project.
Been out of the country and then when I got back, it was into the labour ward with my wife for the arrival of Jess, our new addition to the family
So, since the last time I wrote, shes had a set of stainless brake lines fitted.
That was done just before I went off to work.
I got a hold of a factory exhaust system and simply removed the back box, leaving the downpipe and small resinator to try and keep the noise down. Its still bloomin loud though!!
In the last few days I have decided to get the inside of the car striped out and painted with a nice fresh coat of white paint.
The dash is going to get a covering from the DIY flocking kits from Frost products.
I trimed the lower dash panels to fit round the roll cage and they too will see the "flocking" treatment along with the plastic areas on the door cards.
The next stage is to get the car into the workshop and remove even more of the dash, steering column, etc and then prep it for painting.
When the inside is painted and the dash refitted I will then look at running the new brake lines along with the fuel lines. That should see the inside pretty much done.
Just the fire kit to buy but Im in no hurry for that.
Under the bonnet she got a good scrub. Fairy power spray was required to remove the grime from the underside of the bonnet. A good coat of polish has kept its shine.
The rest of the engine bay will get the works when the engine comes out for the next stage of work.
Thats about it. No great progress as such.
Next trip home should see another little corner chipped away at the job.
The part I am looking for now will be wheel spacers and nuts.
Not sure what to go for.
Think I will speak to Olly at RCM and see what he advises.
So, until the next time ....
