STI 05 Model Weight Reduction
Looking to start modifying my Impreza, and it seems that it may well be cheaper to reduce the weight than increase the power. Anyone got good tips for things to target in the car first?? The cheaper the better really!

Looking to pay the loan off for my car in a couple of years and start rallying it. Will buy a motorbike or use other half's car as a daily runaround!
No intention to sell the car at the end of the day, but initially looking for cheapest bang for buck weight reduction!
No remap yet - would you recommend?

I have an STI3 so chose to have a PowerFC replacement ecu fitted - a newage car like yours can have the existing ecu remapped, best to do a search TEK3

Cost around £650

An easy and cheap gain would be to treat all four tyres and abandon the spare wheel and tool kit. OEM and most after-market wheels are heavy too, consider replacing them with lighter kit (and dont be tempted to adopt silly wheel sizes as the W&T combinations can weigh far more than OEM and you suffer a handling penalty with the increased unsprung weight, as wll as icreasing vehicle weight).
A more extreme upgrade would be to fit manual winders (to the front with fixed rears) and replace your door cards with carbon fibre parts. If you dont mind the noise remove all of the carpets and remove the sound deadening from beneath (warm first). Having done this you can either refit the OEM carpet, or fit CF floor liners.
All of this is relatively pointless if youre still 25kgs overweight of course.....
