Default 2002 WRX Budget hillclimb car!

Well, we are aiming to compete in the Scooby Speed Championship next year, but my dad also has to use the car everday.

The car:

Standard apart from intake silencer removal.

Stage 1 (July):

Eibach Springs
Whiteline Drop links
Whiteline Rear 22m adj ARB
Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit
Cat-back exhaust of some osrt (possibly H&S)
Air Filter
Geometry

This should have it handing well, making a nice noise and maybe a tiny bit more power.

Stage 2 (January)

Decat Downpipe
ECUtek Remap
KYB AGX shocks
Discs, Pads, Braided hoses of some sort
Possibilities: STi Intercooler, Walboro Fuel Pump

This little lot should see it handing even better, braking better and going much better! From what I've read 280bhp sounds reasonable.

Any other suggestions?

Adam

Check with TerryB:

Rollcage!
Decent tyres!

Other than the personal protection stuff and the car preparation for meeting the Blue Book (minimal) then you will have a LOT of fun!
Graham.

Nearly a year! Does the beer fridge still work?

We're hoping to make another trip out there soon.

Going to be a cracking car.

You also need an up-pipe decat and definately get the uprated fuel pump. I have a similar spec all round on my car, but with a de-cat sports cat downpipe. The H&S sports cat downpipe only loses 2-4bhp over the de-cat equivalent, and I still managed to get power on a Dyno Dynamics approaching what you stated.

Stage 2 for me is going to be...

TD05 16g with an STi Intercooler and STi Injector's - should kick out over 300bhp. Fully stripped out with replacement front seats, roll cage and to finish it off, AP brakes. When the gearbox gives up an STi 6 speed will be going in and an Exedy Organic clutch when that goes.

That will be stage 3 for us Ben

What exhausts to people recommend? Is it best to go for a 3" system straight off incase of further modifications, or would it be better to stick with a 2.5" to begin with?

I've got a 2.5" system Adam and I should of bought a 3" from the out set. You can get away with a 2.5" but, particuarly with a turbo change, the 3" is worth the extra cost.

Okay that sounds good. Are there are relatively cheap but good quality exhausts around or is it the more expensive the better they are in general?

I personally wouldn't bother with extravagent Japanese exhausts. You can get excellent quality alternatives without paying out for shipping plus premium. I went for H&S and have no complaints. The prices on their website are for 2.5" but I don't think 3" is that much more. Fitting will be a bit to budget for, although the turbo has to come out for access to the downpipe so it makes sense to get both done at the same time.

Good luck with the project and looking forward to seeing the result.

Thanks, H&S sounds good.

Is the Scoobyworld Afterburner a 2.5" system?

from what I understand about exhausts (and it aint much ) is the 2.5" exhaust shouldn't be an issue until you get to circa 350bhp

if you want 3" you could always look here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=521830

I fitted a 3'' system decat on a stock Sti v3 and all was fine, still on the car with about 400 ish bhp etc.
The system was second hand off a rally car in Wales removed when it was upside down....a few dents but still does the business. Cost £250 3 years ago when 3'' was rare.
Graham.

Sorry for the lack of updates but nothings happened due to the Locost going to a show today and I had to repair the dodgy brakes.

Hopefully another update next week.

Well.... since the last update the rear shocks have started squeeking like anything so it looks like they'll be changed, probably for some KYB AGXs.

Well, the latest update is....

New volvo coming this week, which was promised last week, and the week before, and the week before that, and before that since about mid august. The old volvo is being sold, and as soon as thats happened we will start on the Subaru!

Anyone fancy a 2002 V70 D5 Auto with 84000 miles?

In my hill climb experience over the last 14 years:

If you get started on the car NOW you will be about ready for next season!

Get on with it!
