MK1 Escort with WRX running gear!!!
As the title, i havent long sold my turbo and ive got the itch for another one, but want something a little different. So i thought i'd combine my 2 favorite cars.
So im after a cheap damaged WRX to cut the floorpan out of to fit into a MK1 escort (I LOVE WELDING!!) Engine and all running gear required.
ANYONE GOT ONE?
300 bhp 4wd turbo mk1!!

It will happen, my boss and i have done some stupid cars before (fiat panda 3.5 V8 on shortend range rover chassis, 911 engined VW campervan and a TR4 with a jag V12 motor) its just a case of getting a cheap WRX.

cut the floorpan out of the WRX so i can mount all the scooby suspension under the escort (making it 4wd).
Easier than making up mounting points on the escort floor to accept the running gear, and also keeps all the geometery the same not to **** UP the handling.

EXCELLENT IDEA!
Would be great to do it.
Guess you have checked how close the wheelbase/track are to each other etc.
I used to build American type Street Rods with all manner of parts to get the job done...envious!
Do it.

Perky - email me if you're after a MK1 shell - I know of an MSA logbooked one with mexico arches and SD cage - it's tax exempt too

I have a damaged 2001 JDM WRX Bugeye in the garage if you are interested - just depends what you mean by cheap!! Mine has had a medium/hard front but the floorpans are intact as is the running gear, gearbox casing is busted but I have a new box to go with it.
It is meant to be my 'little' project to put it back together but I just don't seem to get the time so if the money is right we could do a deal.
Only 17,000kms on the clock from new.
Cheers
Nick

I saw a 95 WRX on ebay a month or two ago, it had all body panels stripped off it all that was left is just what i needed. That went for £550! SO THATS HOW CHEAP I MEEN!
The anglia you saw did have a subaru running gear fitted, but it was an 1800 L series, so not all that quick!
There was a Green MK1 Escort with a Shapphire Cosworth floorpan built about 15yrs ago.
Whats that mk1 like?

It needs a bit of welding here and there - not too sure what's happeneing with it, ie whether its being returned to a stage car or sold as is or even stripped back to a bare shell
As it stands it has
Full Cage
Mexico front wings
Wedged billies
RBTM's
Hydraulic handbrake
Disked rear axle with a 4.1 slipper
Princess 4 pots
All depends on your budget really - going to be well into 4 figures as it is though, MK1 prices have rocketed

Yeah i know sold my last one 5yrs ago for £1500, it was mint with a top spec hill climb 1760 x/flow. My mates an Escort breaker/dealer so he's got afew shells there for me, dont need to be mint as most of the inner wings and floor will be coming out.
Ive got the front half of an Impreza ready to fit into the mk1 engine bay.
(Is the standard impreza 1.8 shell the same as the Wrx?)

Yeah mate send me some pics: Daiperky@aol.com , n i'll show them to my mate he's always on the lookout for Type 49 mk1's.
Looks as though ive got the Mk1 shell sorted out, just had a look at one my mates got. Should do ok, rotten in the usual places but most of that is going to be cut out anyway. Also got an impreza classic front end which ive had for a while (sold the back to the Moderator on imprezasport.net, to make a trailer out of!) so that should get fitted. I'll try and get some photos up before long.
If anyone has measurement of the impreza's wheelbase, track etc that they can pm me or post on here that would help.

While I was doing my scoop mod today I was thinking about this project of yours...
The track and the distance between the front strut tops seem a lot wider than an Escorts.
I would take some serious time to measure an Impreza right now.

WRXCORT UPDATE, im currently highest bidder on a MY95 uk turbo wagon (305 pounds) with damage to the n/s b post and doors, the only thing is that its an auto, not what i want really.
Is there any difference in the motors in the auto, what i meen is how much hastle is it if i switch to a manual box? Ive got the pedalbox for a manual at home.
The rest of the car is really tidy so could make my money back breaking the rest of the bits. What do you all think?

Just checked the pics of the scoob im bidding on, it looks like its a WRX not a UK model.
Its got the sill/rear spat extension bits, window deflectors, 'i' grill badge, horrid jap style wheels. Mite of just been put on it later, but thats the sort of stuff that imports have on them. Any other tell tale signs?
Have to wait till monday to contact the seller but they prob dont know their just getting rid for the insurance company.

Yep the salvage auction say its a WRX, its on 810 quid now and ends tomorrow night,
whats it worth? Is it worth going for and changing the box over to manual, will i get DCCD on the new manual box (and how much)? Or should i just wait till a manual WRX turns up?
