I remember years ago was in my mates Cavalier SRi, and got overtaken ( at fair speed ) by some real crap looking purple and rust Allegro or something similar - my mate floored it and the other car just left him standing, he couldnt get anywhere near it - turned out the owner had a tuned Rover V8 in there !

Now that would be cool - complete Impreza running gear and engine etc... and just get the rattiest possible body from some old shed and stick it on there - would really upset the boy racers.

Best of luck. Been looking for a mk1 too and considering putting in a 2.0 twin cam toyota levin engine. And then, find a super charger for it. All in good time, my RA is sitting in bits, need to get her done.

Thanks for comments guys, the impreza im using is an early bog standard uk 1.8 gl model, the floor pan is the same as the wrx so just need to buy a damaged wrx to fit all the good bits to the floorpan.
That golf is awesome, bet it suprises afew people! How much of the impreza floor did you use or did you fabricate your own suspension mountings for the impreza drivetrain? yeah any help would be useful before i start cutting up the shells.

Is this thread memory lane or what
My first car was a Mk2 van, no where near as good as this one, but it still taught me a few things about oversteer

I'm loving the Mk1 Golf too, I've had one or two, and will have another but they've never been that quick

Good luck with the Escort perky, keep the updates coming

With regards to what floorpan we used on the golf , we used as much impreza as we could .

We literally cut out the each front leg and tunnel seperatly and then welded it all back together (after taking as many measurments ).when together we then cut all the rear floor and rear struts out of the golf then cut a 12" section out of the center of the car for the tunnel , then removed the bulkhead ( the best tool you will ever hire is a plasma cutter for this but you probably know that if your attempting this)we then had a large subaru section of chassis ( the tunnel and front legs ) we lifted this section in through the boot after lots of cutting and grinding .We did"t have to alter much on the golfs front legs because the impreza's legs sat under the golf"s suprisingly well, we just plated them together, we then used the old bulkhead as a template an made our own beefing it up a bit . as for the rear as i metioned we removed the whole boot floor and struts . we cut the H frame out of the impreza and mounted thecomplete rear subframe to it with wheels attatched, we aligned the wheels under the wheel arches and lowered the car down on the ramps when everthing was alighned, that was then where the H frame had to be welded in, the floor was then plated in, then new rear struts were fabricated. Luckily the front stuts dimensions were almost exact as long as we used coilovers we did not have to alter anthing on the front struts which was a big bonus .

Basically any part of subaru floor chassis that needed anything bolting to it I used.

At york dragway"s 0 to 60 challenge it ran a 4.5s with 280bhp with a close ratio box that i could only get 58mph in second . but still was well happy with that. i have another vid of that which i'll post later.

Hope that would be of some help
