Possible Saab NOS Turbo project
#1
I have a 1996 N Saab 900SE Turbo pushing out 185bhp as standard. Having seen a few car programs where theyve stripped out a motor and NOS'd it for some cheap 1/4 mile fun.
What I wanted to ask was what sort of power would the standard Saab drivetrain happily put up with?
Should I uprate / strengthen anything?
Was going to strip the leather interior, dashboard (possibly), air con (possibly) - what else should I be ripping out (carefully of course!)???

Hmmm my Saab 9-5 on the B235R engine (2.3) with an Abbott Racing uprated turbo, ECU, suspension, exhaust and a few other bits went VERY well pushing over 270bhp on front wheel drive.
But that was the limit on MY engine as it was the SE. The aero engine is slightly stronger maybe and you can push that to 310bhp as Hirsch Performance did.
Tho on a front wheel drive getting the power down like that is VERY hard.

I dont mind a slow launch, once its off the line I'll just plant my right foot and blow a 5lb bottle of NOS on each run!
I was told on another thread related to this that a standard 900 box would only take about 200-210 - bit close to call with a standard engine giving 185. I doubt any car manufacturer would produce a car with a 10% tolernace or I could be completely wrong?

Nah Abbott Racing will tune this up from 185bhp with 40bhp extra just on the ECU. And they offer turbos and the lot.
Standard Saab internals are quite strong IMO. I did 90k miles on my conversion and it was still running sweet as a nut. I miss that car.

Purely Saab tuning. Excellent prices.
NOS? Shouldnt be a problem for a quarter mile car.
