Cool

Right, first some piccies - Coz everyone loves those.

This car used to belong to me, but is now in the hands of my father. However, I'm still going to be allowed to play with it, which is cool!

I bought an original TR7 years ago with the sole intention of a V8 conversion, which was duly carried out by Grinnall Specialist Cars in 1992.

It's got a standard 3.5 SD1 motor (SU carbs), the original 5 speed box, Rover SD1 front struts/hubs/brakes with the rear hubs patterned to match. Wheels are currently Rover SD1 6x14 with 195/60 tyres.

The car was dynoed earlier this year, with disappointing results. Something like 136bhp, and 188lbs/ft. 109bhp at the rear wheels though, which is pretty much the same as my MY99 Impreza turbo!
(It did fend off that P1 at Castle Coombe last year... )

First step for this summer is the fitment of Rover Vitesse 6.5x15 alloys and some decent 205/50x15 tyres.

Then a performance dizzy/electronic ignition.

Future plans include glass-fibre panels, stripped out and caged interior, watts-linkage on the rear axle, etc...

Let's see how this progresses on the cheap - It's great coz brand new Vitesse 4 pot calipers, vented discs and pads are £285 for the pair inc. vat!!!!

PS - keep an eye out for it at various track days this year.
(Rather than bending my Scoob! )

Boring you?

Sorry, it has no: TMIC, FMIC, Turbo, Wastegate, Injectors, BOV, 4WD, ECU, Power-steering, etc...

In future, an EFI would be useful. Extra power and throttle response is always welcome. Depends on the cost. Even now though, it makes a nice change not having to change gear all the bloody time thanks to the wide torque band. Good job, with only 5500rpm!

That's right, barge.

The 2.5 inch exhaust system helps with that, too.

Red face

It's a bit bloody tricky geting hold of SD1 Vitesse alloys...

Looks like whatever I get will need a refurb. Anyone got any suggestions for what colour I should have the alloys finished in, whilst I'm at it?

Original/black/graphite/yellow/etc

Chap I had a 4.3litre TR7V8 convertible that I raced (around 300BHP) and it was a hoot, sounded like a F1 car at full chat

stick with it, they are immense fun as the chasis just can't be made to go round corners + you'll never get it to break reliably..

Stu, are you working at Xtreme in Dudley?? A friend of mine uses their offices as his base.

Well, the Dairylea Triangle will be back out having fun at Castle Coombe on 14th June. Keep an eye out for it.

Do you actually mean BREAK or BRAKE? LOL

It's certainly been known to break fairly reliably!!

If anyone has a decent V8 lump + gearbox going for a song, let me know!

Question

Hey, Stu... Was it you that used to own that grey Legacy Turbo I used to see at the Porsche place in Hagley?

Quite a high spec on that beauty I seem to remember...

I saw quite a few tasty Porkies at the Nurburgring a couple of weeks ago.

Pictures from CCC day here: Click!

There was a wiring fault on our third session, which killed the fuel-pump. At least it meant we survived the day, and didn't end up being "collected" by the idiots who couldn't READ!
