I wonder if this is going to be as easy as the suspension I fitted last month....
Thanks to Pete from Scoobysport for these, very speedy and efficient service. Highly recommended.
This is what I got for £****.** all in.
Look at the size of these babies
the claipers are huuuuuuuge too
all the bits and bobs.
see you later then, time to get my mits grubby
EDIT : deleted the price incase her indoors spies it, i could do without the greif

the size of the piston is something to do with progressive clamping force applied to the disc. small one grips pad first then bigger then biggest, (ie. in direction of rotation) makes for more feel.
I did notice the very light weight of the new caliper but I have no idea on actual weight, Iv'e not fitted one side yet so I can weigh it if your interested ?
(will be tommorrow as it's pissing down now)

Claudius, why do you think it is strange having different sized pistons ? The leading edge of the pad bites hardest so you have a smaller piston there, increasing in size so that equal pressure is maintained across the pad surface.

Actually guys the piston sizing is to increase pressure along the pad length, to match the rise in temperature.
The leading edge is cool, so needs less pressure. The trailing edge is very hot and needs more pressure.
This ensures even pad wear and full use of the pad's length.

Keeping them I would hope . . . Thing being everyone upgrades the base car, however I would never consider letting the dealer have my AP's/Leda/18" GT-Lites so if I want to put the car back to standard I will need these bits in around 12 months no point in selling.

No offence intended Snowy, if you don't ask you don't get !
Try a post in the Wanted forum or keep your eyes on the For Sale obvious I know but I have bought a full ScoobySport system, 18" GT-lites and a Leda B suspension setup all because I kept looking twice a day for 4 months. best of luck
Come on Fuzz let's see some more pic's, have you bedded them in yet. Quite an experiance in itself.

Your wish is my command Rich
Hmmm new braided hose won't fit through hole in strut
Now where did I put that file....Bu99er that, it's taking too long
AHHH HAA this should be a little quicker
That looks more like it should fit now
first thing to be done was dummy fit it all to check the position of the caliper in relationship to the disc.
on goes the mounting bracket.
I used some 12mm dia stainless bolts at this stage, as I knew it might have to come off again to shim it to the correct distance.
I used one 0.5mm shim between each of the 2 mounting points as a SWAG [1] to start off with.
Next attatched the disc with standard nuts with a washer under each incase they became thread bound on the studs.
then it was dummy fit of caliper with feeler gauges in between the caliper and disc to get it an equal distance.
it all had to come off again even though the measurments were correct as I couldn't get at the bolts holding the bracket on with the disc and the caliper in the way.
So together with the correct bolts this time and a touch of locktight on the threads. torque everything up and it was done.

Mind you I have been busy cleaning the engine bay so I don't get quite so grubby when I pull that apart next month
Do you think it's clean enough yet ??

Engine bay looks fantastic ! so do the brakes !
Were they fairly easy to do and did they need shimming at all ?
I am just about to order mine but cant decide between AP 6 pot or AP 6 pot monsters (362 mm disks instead of 330)

difficulties for the layman on this one maybe the torquing of the bolts and the alignment of the caliper.
I did use a shim on each of the bolts but later found with the caliper bolts slightly slack, there is about 0.30mm of play, so the shimming isn't an exact science (good job too hehe )
some peeps may not have torque wrench but unless you really ball strain on on bolts your not going to damage them, although saying that, it is advisable to get things checked by someone with the correct tools and knowledge (get out clause, I suppose I had better put that in there )
Initially didn't want to use the supplied bolts to put it together as these were squashed type lock nuts and with frequent un-doing they would have lost there locking abilities.

Yes apparantly (with a promise of swapping them if they don't) they will fit under 17" rims..is what I ahve on mine.
I've changed loads of disks and pads but never shimmed before.
I also have a torque wrench so thats no probs.
Whats the idea behind shimming, to centre the caliper over the disk ??
Would someone with medium (ahem) abilities be able to cope ?
and is the bleeding as per normal brake bleeding ie start from the furthest, down, up down up etc ! !!

let us know how you get on with those monster discs !
yep the reason for shimming the caliper is to centre it over the disc.
Normal bleeding rules apply, only you have two nipples on each caliper. just kept going round them until all the bubbles stopped as I had a litre of fluid to play with, I also had to flush the old fluid out, just keep an eye on the resevoir or you'll have to start again (but you already know that )

Keefa,
Borrow a friend's mountain bike with disc brakes on, you can practice aligning the caliper to the disc, and you can practuce bleeding the system also.
if it's set up wrong, it shouldn't be too painful.
The principals are the same to a car, except you've got bigger, more expensive toys.

I ought to mention it's not just a matter of centering the caliper to the disc but to get it true / parallel to it also, same shims so no big deal.

Good work fella !
I have had a busy day too collected some 18" P1 rim's for the track ! ! ! Just looking for some slicks now
A bit gutted about your deal with ScoobySport though as I did call them at the same time and was told none were in stock so no deals to be had. Ah well . . .
