My immediate plan was to put a big turbo on straight away and run north of 700bhp. My ultimate aim is to build a full weight 10 second street car, I estimate that I’ll need around 750bhp seeing as this car weighs around 1500kg (maybe a little less now with some of the modifications it’s now carrying).

When the engine was built and run it, it was done on a stock location Precision 5530, which is similarly sized to a GT3076R. I was never that concerned about the power it made but have since been extreme impressed with the car in this particular state of tune, it makes for a very fast road car with very little lag and lots of torque.

I have taken it to Santa Pod once where it ran a 11.9 quarter mile on its second run, I gave up after that as fourth gear synchro wasn’t happy and launch control hasn’t been set up yet, but I’d estimate there’s a solid mid-11 second run in the car as it stands.

So next on the list will be a larger stock location turbo, something like the new Precision Gen 2 58mm or a GTX3576R and see how close that gets me. I’m under no illusions that I’ll have to go to a full rotated setup to get into the 10’s, but I’ve not seen many people really push the stock location envelope.

One thing I would like to do in the future is a sequential gearbox, that would definitely shave some time off! But that’s further down the line. For now in just want to have some fun with the car and see where it ends up.

What kind of excuse is that?!?

My old GTR running 650BHP was 10.6 consistently at an event - ok, different car but heavier and not silly power. SEQ make a huge difference I would think, maybe even enough? Do you need the turbo if you go full sequential and flat shifting? Id be rather interested to see what sort of SEQ options you find and still keep it a semi-road car.
