black headlight mod.... early car.....
So we've all seen the black headlight mod carried out on facelift classics and newage cars, ive done many myself for my own cars and friends.
But, ive never seen or even heard of it being done on an early pre-facelift car.
So yesterday I raided my spares shelves and found a pair of early lamps just crying out to be modified
Unsure of what I'd find inside I chucked them into the oven at 100 for 5 mins to warm up the glue....
Once warm i split the lights to see what was inside.
As you can the inserts on the early cars are one piece unlike the later cars that use a two piece insert. This would make it a little more difficult because for obvious reason we don't want the entire insert black.
So some masking was required.
Primer followed by gloss black....
Masking tape removed and this is what we are left with...
Back into the oven to soften the glue again and then fitted back together.
I also carried out the same modification on the sidelights but didn't take any pics of that process unfortunately but it's just the same technique as the headlights.
Anyway, all back on the car.
Not a huge difference but it certainly looks better and something a little different at least.
I'll get some before and after pics with the car outside in the sun when I get chance
Here's a quick shot of beforehand....
I think the darker headlights and side lights will fit in well with the other black touches that the RA comes with, the door handles and mirrors plus the aerocatches that I've added.
