P5/6 WRC budget build
Hi guys.
I just finished building my first rally car, the most enjoyable bit of the project for me was designing and making some bespoke parts, so I have decided (knowing the rally car won't last long with me behind the wheel!) I'm going to build another car but this time to a higher standard, loosely based around a P5/P6 with a lot of parts designed by myself.
I will have to work within the rules of the MSA as I want to compete in this at national level.
I am aiming for 300+bhp and 450+lb/ft while using a 34mm restrictor. A sequential would be very very nice, but to put it in perspective, just the gearkit is 4x the cost of my daily driver!
It would be nice if the car ended up looking as good as a WRC, but I'm not going to loose sleep over details being different. I'd rather be different and get critisised than copy someone else
I'm not made of money so I will be doing things as sensibly as possible, with abit of wheeling and dealing along the way no doubt!
I'm starting with a type r shell which I bought, stripped and now owes me nothing :-)
My mascot driving!
In my workshop getting her naked
The shell looks a good base to start from so I'm going to continue with this one.
The first few jobs will all be chassis mods. Cage, strengthening, arches and boot floor mainly

Shell had been accident damaged so I sold it.
Struggled to find a good 2 door shell to start from so I bought a 4 door with cage already in. I've started on the 4 door shell, after rallying one I now know they need a fair bit of strengthening to take the abuse so I'm concentrating on beefing it up and lightening it. I will reshell my existing rally car into it once it is complete.
I have some nice bits lined up to go into it during the reshell.
I will take some pictures and continue with my rally car thread when I find the time.

Sounds like a nice project, give me a shout if you need any engine info, ive build alot of rally car engines and spent many hours on the dyno getting some decent numbers out of them. My current engine makes 332/435 on carless ultimate.

I am dubious I have to be honest! Would be good to hear your thoughts.
I am at 360lb/ft with my existing engine setup, will be going to 102ron Sunoco very shortly, hoping to gain 50lb/ft....
Contemplating going to small port avcs heads and fly by wire throttle body when I reshell and rebuild the engine.

I have a vf34 billet wheel here, it's never been fitted though. Graham Martin (enginemapper) was doing some development work with them with Steve Simpson, i'm not sure what the outcome was, i'll ask Steve next time I see him. When you switch to turbo fuel you usually gain 30bhp and about 50ftlbs.
Ive got a Prodrive WRC head here, they are based on a V4 head but the castings are small port AVCS size/shape, I guess Subaru copied them after Prodive done the development?

So, I sold the 4 door shell and bought a nice solid type r to rip apart, so back on with P5/6 BB :-)
WRC rep metal rear quarters and cage bits due at christmas :-)
Major bits i'm still looking for are a sequential box/diffs, heads, mag inlet and a set of 'irish tarmac spec' dampers if anybody can help me out would be much appreciated

I'm pretty sure it's the same guy, looks fairly legit to me
I bought a whole fiberglass kit i thought was WRC but the arch cut lines look a little low to me now! Maybe it's because they're Matt black the contours don't show up as well. What do you think?
So I bought a pair of WRC rep front wings in kevlar last week, will be able to compare the 2 side by side once they turn up!
I intend to produce some moulds so that I can make light and flexible front wings, skirts, bumpers and spoilers(P2000) as and when I need them.

I've bought the kevlar rep wings too. Mine should arrive this week.
Think the little indent/groove on your front wings looks too long for WRC. The WRC ones have only a v short groove; but nothing that can't be fixed.
It's hard to judge the depth of your arches without the wheels and tires sitting in them.
I'm not certain Aram's had the full WRC cut to the arch? Weren't they a bit of a 22B/WRC hybrid?

Fingers crossed their good then! Lol
I'm not too sure, I'll have a good look.
I'm more concerned about the rear quarter situation. So, I put in the order a good while back, they said (company pictured above) when they could start and all has pretty much gone to plan, but my gut is saying something isn't right here. I've got pics of the panels laid out and today got some pics of them boxed up, but I havnt handed over a penny yet, initially they asked for a deposit but never gave details of how or who to pay it to, and they appeared happy to carry on regardless giving me progress updates.
So, having this feeling I asked for a PayPal invoice for the parts as I didn't want to give any details. The invoice is from an individual not a company and doesn't state what the money is for. I searched Facebook and found somebody with the same name, from the same country as the company but it appears to be fake....
So I had a good look at the Facebook page of this company and not much has happened on it for about 6 months, after a lot of activity in January last year hardly a post has been made.
Something else bugging me is that I swear I've seen the pics they sent me before somewhere, probably on a thread on here but I can't find it! I appreciate that if it is the same company making the same panels then the pics could be very similar.
Can anybody shed any light on the company or individual if I give them the name? I would like to find out more before I hand over any money, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Here are some pics of my WRC car if you want to look at the line ect , i'll be doing Brean in 2 weeks if you want to come and see it yourself.
My car has kevlar replica front wings fitted as I damaged my steel ones in Jersey last year , I will get them fixed so can have them ready to fit back on when I sell the car , the steel front wide arch wings have been made from standard wings , they use the front and top section , then the arch is spot welded on , would be quite easy to make for a good steel fabricator.
I paid about £650 for a pair of front kevlar wings and a front bumper , made by a company in west wales that supplies WRC spares , I went direct and saved a pretty packet , they also do the rear quarters and sills , i'll dig out the number for them
Cheers Ian

Thanks for the link, had a look and pics are definitely different
Thanks for the pics of your car Ian, she's a stunner!
Brean is on my doorstep so I'll be there! Best of luck
And that number would be great, PM me if you prefer

Hi guys,
That is indeed the same guy I got mine from.
As you can read in his topic he has modeled them of a 22B, but I find the wheel arch diameter of a 22B too small, so I ordered them in between the WRC and the 22B.
I also don't like the 22B skirts so had them modeled after the WRC, so it is a nice hybrid kit.
I did not find the time yet to weld them on, and I am also waiting on my new rear subframe.
After I receive it I can setup my rear geometry and then I will fix them in their final position.
But I really like how they sit, and I am really happy with the arch diameter choice.
To me it is the right balance opticly.

Hi Gents, thanks for your input.
Aram I couldn't open your pics either?
Ian your car is looking as good as ever! I remember reading you wanted to swap over to replacement panels a while ago to save the originals, but I hadn't realised you'd ding'd them before swapping over!
They certainly look good, and it sounds like you got a great deal too. I'd love their contact details if you have them (pm me if you prefer). I have rear wings coming from Germany and front wings from Latvia. Something has arrived at home, but I'm in HK this week so can't check yet. It would certainly be good to deal with a UK supplier, as I still need bumpers and skirts at least.
Cheers

I should have the number today where I got the panels from , yes I was planning on swapping them and keeping the original steel wings safe , never seemed to find the time to do it being so busy all the time , that'll teach me !
Here's how I damaged them last year in Jersey , a wrong note had us going over the brow way too fast and had no way of stopping , it didn't help having the gearbox turned off , without the centre diff locking under braking it just locked the front wheels , it would have been a slower bump if the gearbox was turned on , perhaps slow enough not to snap the TCA's.
Not safe for work as there's a bit of swearing !!
Cheers Ian
