Hi mate

Need an replacment Upipe for a 2001 P1 mate.

Wanted to fit a new one for piece of mind.

Price on a new item please.

Also, do you think it's worth fitting an uprated or wrapped item or is it better to stick to a OE item?

The cars running pretty standard at the mo apart from a full decatt system. I plan to put the power up in 2-3 years time with mods to around 350bhp but this will not be for some time to come yet.

Thanks.

Why have you come to that conclusion and what aftermarket heat wrap are you referring to?

Secondhand O/E replacement in VGC for P1 is £25 plus delivery.
Purpose designed, stainless steel, slip jointed, five new Subaru studs and DEI heat wrapped is £139 plus delivery.

Classic, aftermarket, decat uppipe. Unwrapped. £50 plus delivery.

Delivery and Paypal for each uppipe is £8.50.

Sorry for being a dumbass, but would you know if my standard P1 upipe a decatt or not?

Is the O/E decatt item for a classic you quoted £50 for a brand new item?

I would prefer to fit a brand new one as it's not a job I fancy doing twice if I can avoid it!

Cheers.

Well the std insulation and cladding are much more robust and better insulators than any of the wrapped ones ive seen.

Infact my mate has just done his P1's upipe, all the wrap had burnt off his headers and the upipe, just the odd bit hanging down
Its wasnt cheap either, I cant remember the brand at this time tho.

Thats when the decision was taken to go back to std as there was never any issues.

The P1 uppipe has no CAT.
Classic, aftermarket, decat uppipe. Unwrapped. £50 plus delivery.
Second hand OE uppipe in good condition £25.00.
New, purpose designed, stainless steel, slip jointed with five new Subaru studs and DEI wrapped £139.00.
Delivery and Paypal on each of the above, £8.50.

Well the std insulation and cladding are much more robust and better insulators than any of the wrapped ones ive seen.

I have done a lot of testing on headers, uppipes, downpipes etc. and the standard heat shielding is actually quite poor at retaining heat, keeping under bonnet temperatures and therefore heat soak to a mnimum. If you examine the shielding on the standard uppipe as supplied by Subaru you will see the reasons why.
Quality heat wrap (DEI) is a far better insulator than the OE heat shields and even without temperature measuring equipment you will notice that under bonnet temperatures are lower on a car that has properly wrapped headers and uppipe.
The same is true for the turbo heat shield compared with a properly wrapped turbo hot side.
Properly applied wrap on an uppipe will last indefinately but in time the heat shield on the uppipe will fracture at the welds and start to rattle. This is one reason why many owners replace the OE uppipe.
A properly designed uppipe will outperform the OE Subaru item.
You can check out the under bonnet temperatures very easily with a maximum/minimum thermometer and I regularly use an infrared temperature gun to check various heat sources.

The photo above shows 3 bolt header set with uppipe supplied.
Also shows DEI heat wrapped performance uppipe (also 3 bolt) to replace the one supplied with the headers. These uppipes are currently £139 increasing to £149 in August.
I have one set of new 2 bolt flange headers and these are £200 plus delivery. Very similar to the 3 bolt design but with 2 bolt up-pipe flange.

Are these headers better quality than the ones on ebay? i.e they won't blow themselves to bits? Looking for headers and up-pipe for a 2001 JDM STI that will fit to my 3" RCM Downpipe. Are the headers 3"? How much including delivery to KY12?

Cheers
Neil

Two bolt flange tubular headers now SOLD. Thanks.
Loads of 3 bolt with uppipe and gasket in stock.
Loads of purpose designed 2 bolt uppipes, new. 3 different uppipe specs, 2 bolt depending on mods and turbo in use. All heat wrapped and all with new studs.
3 bolt flange performance uppipe also in stock.

Hi Neil,

I don't know what crap is on e-Bay as I sell nothing there but you can semd me the link if you want and I will have a look but I would be very surprised if the 3 bolt flange header sets are on e-Bay as I purchase them direct from the importer.
The 3" downpipe has absolutely no connection to the headers and uppipe. The downpipe runs from the back of the turbo to the exhaust system.
No the headers are not 3" and 3" headers will not work on a Subaru. The pipe diameters will be closer to 40mm but off the top of my head I cannot remember.
These are performance header sets that are in wide use £375 each £12.50 overnight delivery UK mainland.

Decat uppipe for 2001 WRX with or without the boss as you require is £139 and it comes slip jointed with five new Subaru studs and DEI wrapped. Delivery £12.50.
I have sold all the second hand ones that would be any use for your application.

I should have said to let me know the turbo you will be using with the uppipe as I have a range of slightly differing uppipes to cater for different applications and therefore match the uppipe to your spec.

Hi, I have a V4STI. Engine is coming out next week to have head gaskets done. Currently has standard turbo fitted but will have a td05 going on soon.

It also has a sports-cat downpipe, from the downpipe backwards is empty.

Do you have a wrapped uppipe that would give an improvement over the currently fitted standard uppipe?

Thanks

There will be a modest power increase from one of my performance uppipes on its own but there will be a noticable increase and sharper throttle response from ported headers and matched uppipe combined.
Changing the uppipe on its own, when it has no CAT in it (yours has no CAT) is usually in preparation of ported headers. As a delete for uppipes with a CAT it results in immediate and noticable performance gains.
