Question About To Sell UK MY99, How much is it worth?

Hi,

I'm about to sell my much loved MY99. I am trying to gauge what the best route is. I would prefer it to go to someone who knows what they are getting but i need to weigh this against how much i can get taking the parts of and part ex'in it. Can I ask your opinions on what I should put it up for privately if i was to sell it here? Any decent offers will be taken seriously.

6000-6500 maybe - the mileage will kill the price and people dont really want to buy modified cars

Hi Warren,

How can you have joined in 1970?

I see your point but I would be basing this on someone who did want to buy a modified car in this forum. This is the reason i am asking before stripping it and part exing it, which would be a shame as all the labour has been done by extremely reputable people. If this is the general concensus then I will take it on board. The modified parts alone = more than your estimated price when you add it up so a little more would be nice.

There is a 98s with 96k with a couple mods, sti spoiler, alloys etc at a small dealer not far from me for £5800.

Considering that you are unlikely to get more than 7k. somewhere between £6500 and £7000 would be a good starting price and expect someone to want a few hundred off.

Of course if someone is after one with these kind of mods then you might get decent money, on here is your best bet for finding someone after such a car. Advertisers tend to get a fair few people offering silly money though so ignore the "will you take 5k" type offers!

Hope this helps

Ok so you really think there is no chance of getting more than 7 for it? I know that you do not recoup the money from mods but i have listed the prices of the mods and have been very generous with the prices. This does not include the the pricr of labour:

HKS FMIC = £1000
MD304 Hybrid Turbo (supplied by MarkA) £1000
550cc Injectors = £400
Walbro Fuel Pump =£120
Link (11 Row) Ecu mapped by BRD (Bob Rawle) £1000
Roger Clark Lightened Billet Fly Wheel £300
AP Organic Clutch £300
Roger Clark lightened pulleys £300
Prodrive Big Brake Conversion (330mm Alcon) £1000+
Goodridge Braided Hoses £50
Original Scoobysport Downpipe + Centre £300
Original PPP back box £200
STI V suspension (Red/Pink ones) £600
Blitz Induction Kit £120
Forge Recirc Dump Valve £50
immaculate RB5 interior £800
Dephi Gauges (Boost, Oil Temp, Ex Temp) £300
Remote Knocklink Sensor £100
Dawes Fuel Gauge £50
Goodyear GD3 F1 tyres (recently changed) £400
Clear indicators
NGK R7435-8 plugs £120

Total mods above = £8510

Its a shame that based on opinions so far it looks like im gonna have to swap some things back and trade it in. Its currently RR at 320 BHP 300 Lbs/Ft but is good for more given little effort.

I'm certainly not saying its not worth more than 7. Thats a lot of modifications that would cost a lot of cash to get done if someone fancied a car modified like that.

If you look at the sale cars in general on here subarus aren't selling that well, I've been watching the situation as I was looking to spend about 6 - 7k (I've now bought a car, not a scoob) and there are 98/99 models with and without mods going for that kind of money. They aren't shifting that quickly either it seems.

I didn't look to closely at your spec to be honest but I have now. I think it's worth a try on here for a while and just see if anyones interested. I would say a car of that spec is more likely to sell for its true value here than autotrader anyway and I would think you should be able to get more than the 7k I prematurely stated.

If you could swap it back to standard then stuff like the brakes, injectors, turbo, ecu, induction kit, gauges, interior etc could net you a fair bit of cash.

If you do want to sell it on here get some good pics up as thats always the first thing people want to see.

At the end of the day most of us here aren't traders and even a trader might not know the true value of a modded car so if you fancy trying it at a given price then certainly do so.

Agreed. Looks like a really nicely modified example, but the milage is going to impose a ceiling on the price and you'll be being mugged by throwing in the mods as well!! Leave it with a couple of mods, like the nice back box, so buyers get seduced by the burble. Sell the rest on here- it won't hang around long!!

All the best,

I agree with new_scooby - take off some of the mods and sell them on here - still sticking by my original estimate......

Just wondering what RR it has been on. I am after a replacement at the moment as mine has just been written off. It's not really the colour I wanted but the spec is very similar to what I already had. Some pics would be good if you have them

Hi,

It scored that at PE. That was also prior to a further remap by Bob and the addition of lightened fly wheel and pulleys. I reckon all you would have to do is change the turbo for a hike of safe power. It really is a beautiful example. I will post some pics tomorrow.

I reckon i can probably change the interior back and take all the gauges out. FMIC may be a little harder as that would mean putting turbo back and remapping it back, plus a gapping hole in the bumper. The gauges are 60 mm btw.

that turbo will do 350bhp if you wanted it to.

You wont get anywhere near as much back selling as a whole, as you would breaking and returning to standard.

Going off your mods you could easily get:

HKS FMIC = £500
MD304 Hybrid Turbo (supplied by MarkA) £500
550cc Injectors = £200
Link (11 Row) Ecu mapped by BRD (Bob Rawle) £500
Roger Clark lightened pulleys £100
Prodrive Big Brake Conversion (330mm Alcon) £600
Original Scoobysport Downpipe + Centre £150
Original PPP back box £75
STI V suspension (Red/Pink ones) £250
Blitz Induction Kit £50
Forge Recirc Dump Valve £50
immaculate RB5 interior £400
Dephi Gauges (Boost, Oil Temp, Ex Temp) £200
Remote Knocklink Sensor £100
Dawes Fuel Gauge £30

Total mods above = £3705

So if you get 6K or more for the car you've got nearly 10K inc the mods. The prices i've listed are just a guess but you can see the point Steven is making. You'll get far more by selling the mods off if you can be ar$ed to take it all apart.

Tony.

Edited as had not seen ToneLoc post.

In that case can anyone put a value on the following parts i would need to buy/rebuy to return to standard and can anyone help me source them? I have'nt checked the for sale section yet, off there now.

Standard ECU,
Standard Turbo,
Standard 4 pot brakes.
Standard cat centre.
Standard back box.
Standard flywheel
Part underneath top mounted intercooler. (Y bend)

As a wild guess:

Standard ECU £150
Standard Turbo £100
Standard 4 pot brakes £250
Standard cat centre
Standard back box £50 for both
Standard flywheel £25
Part underneath top mounted intercooler. (Y bend) £25

So £600 ish... maybe. Prices really are a guess. Some people will give away a standard bax box and centre to get them out of the garage, i did just that. TD04 turbos i've seen go for less than £50 on ebay, and 4 post i've seen go for less than £250.

Even with the hassle of all the swapping it still puts you way ahead money wise.

Many thanks P20SPD. You have PM, just to ask if you want to sell those parts?

Do i need to change the 3 port boost solenoid back to the original and put in the pipe with the washer? If so I will need to source that also, any ideas?

Solenoid is easily found mate. I just went through the same thing with my old 99UK car. Best way to do it is to advertise the parts and have a part-ex option for standard parts. i.e. turbo £600 or £500 if part-ex'd with a TD04 (must be in good condition). That way you should get a lot of response from people with the same cars, UK turbo's are always being messed with so you should find it all takes about a month to get shot of.

I traded mine in about three months ago and got £7300 (that only had 56k on it though). Hope this helps and good luck with the sale!!

Would love to keep it but its time to move on. Have a new addition to the familly and Mrs wants something a little more sedate and i kinda agree. It is a top motor though and splitting it is breaking my heart.
