bengreen85 24 June 2010 08:03 PM

im looking for one too. getting induction kit and fmic fitted on sat :)
what have ppl done about stopping rain water coming through the o/s bonnet vent onto filter? don't wanna block it as lots of heat escapes from it...
any1??...........

wimpy 24 June 2010 08:14 PM

If its on the classic you really need to put the backing plate back on as it does not really let any heat out it just holds the hot air in and around the induction area. Plus you are more likely to have MAF problems if the plate is removed as water coming in and maf = problems.

BTTT so its not missed.

mine didnt come with a backing plate. Also after beeing on boost then stopping, there is a ton of heat [heat wave shimmer] coming out of the vent which makes me think its better all that heat escapes rather than keeping under the bonnet.

What would you rather have? a bit of heat or a fcuked engine due to a fcuked MAF due to no cover?

your call.

P.S I hope the other side is still fitted as well.

Yes and that heat is right were your IK is, pulling the rising hot air in - moving or not moving. This has been done to death on here, removing the covers makes things worse not better. Harvey Smith spent a lot of time on this using under bonnet tempo gauges etc and came to the conlusion removing the covers increases under bonnet temps...end of.

didn't someone who had removed there vent blanking have have problems with the water getting into the relay and fuse box causing problems with the injectors?

That was me, I bought the car without them fitted but decided they werent needed so never replaced them, over time the water dripping in through the vent damaged the relay (which is practically right underneath the vent) which then toasted two wires which went to the injectors which then led to the injectors stopping from working which then led to two melted pistons.

thought it was you, you just cant tell some people about these vents because they are covered they automatically assume that uncovering them will be a good thing.
