Slanty TMIC to facelilift TMIC owners
Hi
Just wondering how you guys overcame the Undertray difference? Facelifting the bonnet isnt an option due to funds and them needing to go elsewhere  I bought a facelift undertray, obviously isnt a straight bolt on. Figured id be able to adapt it, but gave up that idea after trying to line it up and mark for holes. So if anyone has some pics of their creations or pointers on this, id be happy to hear and see them. Thanks in advance. |
Why did you buy a facelift undertray for a pre facelift bonnet Bud??
Sorry misread - Youve installed a straight cooler - yes!?! You should be able to get some self tappers in there with a thin rubber washer between the tray and bonnet to stop any rattle - then a couple of bolts where poss - that should hold OK. |
Plan was to modify to fit, still is the plan if things dont work out.
|
This may help a bit:

Cheers for that, think i read that but missed the parts for the undertray. Hmm looks like modifying something to fit is the best way.
I once saw someone use foam blocks before??? |

I once saw someone use foam blocks before??? You could poss - put an air splitter on the cooler thats would sit up into the scoop and force the air where you want it to go.:thumb: |
I searched for these! Guess i was using the wrong search words lol
lol with the foam, sacked that idea. My friend has one of those splitters, but i feel its more of an addition to a correct/working undertray so need one of those first. Thanks for the advice though, looks as though the newage trays are smaller and just need trimming to fit. |
If you look on the club WRX forum under first/basic mods (i think) they give you the plan for a splitter that could be adapted to rivet straight onto the sides of your intercooler.
Its just the actual splitter not like the zerosports tray with splitter. Make a cardboard version to see how far to extend into you bonnet scoop. Not that much work really I would say bud! |
I understand what you mean, that would defo do the trick.
Cheers again |
Welcome bud! - let me know what you come up with!

Ended up buying a 2004 undertray with water spray Got it on and looking like this Attachment 65975 Everytime i pull up and check the intercooler its stone cold, well happy :thumb: I had to drill two holes in the bonnet supports and use self tappers, dont suppose you know if ill have trouble with them corroding? (two different metals touching ect)??? Ps I didnt see your edit of post #2 till now, yes put a V5 sti cooler on the car. |
A Job well done Id say!!
If youre worried abou the screws getting corroded just put a bit of paint arount the holes then re screw in - should hold up ok. I'll prob be asking your help when I fit my V6 Sti cooler this summer - I have put on the facelift bonnet though so my probs wont be the undertray. By the way - I see in that piccy youve taken off the shark gill undertrays - not a good thing to leave off as it causes turbulence under the bonnet and actually raises the temps in there - if your onto getting cooler underbonnet - remove on of the rubber weather strips on the bonnets leading edge for the summer - you'll get a bit dirtier but helps with the temp - put it back for the winter though as you dont want roadsalt it there.:thumb: Lots of other stuff you can do too with a bit of heatwrap and some heat relectant sticky sheet. |

They were off when i bought it. I assumed it was because its an Import RA?? It does look like its always been like it.
My main problem was the V5 intercooler getting terrible heatsoak whilst it was on a rolling road due to having no undertray (got the cooler on then had trouble with the fecelift undertray, then mapping day came :Whatever_). That and a sticky caliper caused a dissapointing bhp figure. You have the right cooler bud, anything newer you'd have problems, V5 and V6 are the same coolers so ill gladly be of help I just trimmed the throttle body down and the same part down on the cooler (basically took the lips off, holds fine still) this gives you the room to get it in. Attachment 65976 Kept my original DV placement too Attachment 65977 Just need to drill the holes into the metal brackets i had made up then the cooler will sit straight Attachment 65978 Also bashed down the shrowd on the gearbox mount just a for a tad more clearence. Hope some of those pics will help ya. |
Top stuff buddy Thanks for those - will be of help!!
Where did you get the cooler cover or did you make it up?? Engine bay looking very nice indded! |
Cheers mate.
The cooler cover is original (i think, and quite rare) I painted the outside trim black, just masked off the sti sticker. Let me know when the time comes if you get stuck, its not that hard though so sure you'll be fine. |
