newbie wants to build a caar for LMA eurosaloons.

hi all,

i've been a keen reader of the forums on this site for a while now.

the info and advice you guys give is second to none.

the time has come for me to throw my hat into the ring and i was hoping you fantastic people might impart some of your knowledge and help me get started.

the plan is to build a car that will be able to compete in the LMA eurosaloons. these guys are running serious equipment. many ex touring cars and guys with bags of cash able to spend what it takes.

i want to compete with these guys but i need to do it on a budget. of sorts at least.

i'm planning on getting an STI type RA version 4 for my base and building up from there. i think this car has the potential with the right mods to do well.

i'll need to get it up to around 550-650 BHP and be abe to corner like its on rails. on research i've noticed a lot of good equipment can be bought at a reasonable price on this site, e-bay, etc.

i need to know what you guys think, what parts you recommend, good people to do the work.

i'll start a thread and keep it up to date as the project goes along so you can keep tabs if your interested.

i'm looking at a car right now. 3.5k.

thanks for all your help guys and i'll keep you all posted as soon as its starts.

Well, you're starting off with the correct choice of vehicle - the MY97 v.3 and MY98 v.4 lightweight Type RAs have the best power-to-weight out of the box - plus offers excellent bang-for-buck to start the project rolling. Plus, as you may know, they have really low gear ratios and FD for fabulous acceleration, and the adjustable DCCD electronic centre diff to help tailor the car's handling trait for each venue.

Re. mods, there's quite a few members on here/specialsits who have brought cars up to that level of bhp, so will leave it to them to give you the benefit of their knowledge...

Good luck - I'd be interested to follow your "Project" thread, should you start one, plus follow your progress in the series. It'd be well interesting... :) :thumb:

Save yourself some money, 3.5k for the car if your buying a wreck, then add 30+k to that, or just look at this one :)

Me, my boss and his brother are in a work syndicate and the boss runs it/checks numbers. So, unless I was to have gotten a phonecall/text, then no win :brickwall . Whats new?

come on guys, i've seen so many good and helpful posts on here.

i know its not gonna be a walk in the park but as that green time attack car showed, good cars can be built on a reasonale budget.

Whilst you're waiting for some input (be patient, it is the Xmas hols after all :)), you could do a lot worse than read through/cherry pick info from ScoobyNet's very own project car.

The great thing is, is that the engine has gone through 3 stages of tune, so should be of great help to you now and for future modding, etc...

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...roduction.html

The beautiful thing about walk-throughs like this, is that readers benefit from not being led down the wrong avenues with respect to 'correct' mods... We learn - for free! - from the 'guinea pig's' mistakes, etc...

This DIY thread should be ideal for you too...
