Car won't start, How to replace a Sigma keypad

So Impreza won't start. Has been playing up for a while, when trying to disarm the immobilizer. Thought it might be fobs, so changed batties a few times then seems to work fine. Now stopped and no fob will work with new batteries. Can you get the immobilizer bypassed?

Had the same problem couple of wks ago, finally got hold of sigma code which worked but then had to recode both keys

I've got the code for the control pad. But i think the pad is knackered. Is that what you used?

jaygsi 07 April 2021 03:41 PM

Ah my keypad is done for, i used a pen and think i damaged the control pad. So going have to buy another one.

Not sure if i can buy the mk1 pad, looks loads better to operate.

Got new keypad, thought post some pictures, might post another thread, just incase someone ones to do this. Easy job, you can discount keypad from rear off pad and swap for new one. See if it works.

jaygsi 09 April 2021 09:41 PM

Cheers, yes it worked. Cars working again now.

Only problem is can't get the fobs working now, even after trying to reprogram them back into the system.

Any info would be great thanks

How have you tried re-programming the fobs??
As per page 16 of the attached sigma M30 manual??

jaygsi 10 April 2021 08:27 PM

Yes that's the manual I have, did just that. Do you press # before or after pressing fobs?

Before and what is shown as "Q" in the manual is * on the keypad.
Also the full keypad procedure is slightly different to using a working key/fob to initiate.

jaygsi 12 April 2021 12:40 AM

Yea in the manual in my manual it has # not Q, i will try again tomorrow.

So whats the other way? Thought if i just added the fobs back into the system, then it would clear all fobs anyway, before it added them back?

Better late than never I have arrived.
To reprogram the fobs, you need to enter your 4 digit pin code to arm the system, Then enter the 4 digit pin code again to deactive the system
Then enter the following sequence.
*17856*91*2# then press each fob to be programmed once. the alarm should chirp after each fob press to indicate it has learnt. the number 2 represents the amount of fobs to be programmed so if you only had one fob then change the 2 to a 1

jaygsi 15 April 2021 03:46 PM

Great thanks Rob, what's the 17856 for?

Gambit 16 April 2021 10:16 AM

*17856*91*2 Is the specific instruction code for the action you are wanting to perform - in this instance setting fobs

here is another similar instruction that id used previously when i had my classic years ago to reset the PIN as i didnt know mine. youll notice it also uses 17856 and then 92 is the specific instruction code

A.Using a working Radio Key:
- Arm and then Disarm the system using a working Key fob.
- Within 30 seconds of disarming, type into the keypad- *17856*92*wxyz*wxyz# (where wxyz is your new PIN code)
- Arm the system with the key fob
- You should now be able to disarm the system using the new PIN code

jaygsi 16 April 2021 08:02 PM

So the code Rob gave me, resets the pin? As i just want to code key fobs back into the system?

:wonder:
Read the various posts again and compare the differences between Robs post and Gambits.
91 - code fobs
92 - change pin

jaygsi 17 April 2021 05:07 PM

Lol sorry, that's great will go try that now, i suck at reading, constantly scanning over messages.

Think one of the fobs isn't working though, as no light, after the misses fitted higher voltage batteries in it, not sure if thats damaged it

Cheers Rob, tried it today again as didn't work with one fob, so tried it with a brand new fob and a used one and has now coded the new fob in but not the other used fob, so will try again later.

So strange thing, but bought new fob, can code only one fob into the system? Followed all instructions and coded one fob fine but second fob doesn't code, tried multiple times always codes the first key but not the 2nd. Do I need to press something in between?

I am having issues which sound similar to yours, when you swapped the key pad over did you need to re program the key pad or is it just a straight swap.
For reference I have a 2005 impreza wrx.

thanks for any help I appreciate it.

jaygsi 28 July 2022 11:22 PM

Straight swap mate, I wished I'd upgraded to the later key pad, but if memory serves me well, it had different connection.

But best to just swap pads over, not whole cable as buried into the dash.

Have you maybe got to many keys programmed in ? A remember when adding keys the manual said something like up to 4 at a time ? Maybe ur at the limit need to wipe it start again ,am sure it flashes to tell you how many keys are on the system
