Introduction and first Subaru purchase 2005 WRX Wagon

Hi Folks,

I though best to join the forum as have been lurking for ages. I have just recently picked up my first Subaru and am a little smitten. I originally bought it to be a winter beater but it looks like I will be keeping it longer than just over the winter. The car is standard apart from some suspension upgrades carried out by the previous owner as the old suspension was getting tired and a full SS STI genuine exhaust. The plan is......well...........erm....to keep it as it is. Its quite high mileage (136k). I have had it in for a service as the history is quite sparce. Cambelt, waterpumup, new discs and pads (old ones were shot) and conformation that its not totally rusted ( I have had some welding done up front) out means I am hopefully good to go. I bought it after seeing its condition rather than the miles on it. My apologies in advance, not to good with the spanners so most work I get done by someone who is, I just drive and clean it (love my detailing). Enough of rambling, a few pics:

I forgot to add, it came with a towbar and original dealer sticker in the back window :).

Hey and welcome,

I'm new to the scene myself after having just bought a blob wrx with high mileage. Don't worry about mileage.. Mine has 173k on the clock and still pulls like a beast never misses a beat...

Your wagon looks very clean indeed! Jealous of your wheel condition!
Looks like it hasn't been abused which is a great start 😀

Welcome!

Looks like a nice first scooby, i do like the facelifted interior in these compared to earlier ones. :thumb:

Nice clean car. :thumb:
Good to see suspension was improved, makes the car safer and more enjoyable to drive,
at standard power and depending on how you drive you might like to consider improving the brakes next. Even though you have new discs / pads the standard cars performance rather overpowers the braking capability.
Lots to look at but considering your 17 inch rims good condition probably best to look at what sort of thing is available here

Thanks for the welcome guys, much appreciated. :)

I am going to hang fire on upgrading the brakes although will perhaps consider it next time round. Plan is to hope it lasts over the winter and look at things again in the spring time. I have actually spent this evening going through the old receipts, despite the servicing going awol after 30000miles, it still had over £3000 spent on it in recent years, pretty much all in maintenance which in my eyes shows the car has had some love. It was a bit of a risk but seems to have panned out ok. Still beaming to actually own one after all these years!

EDIT: Actually next up will be tyres, I have seen these, Uniroyal Rainsport 3's, price looks to pretty good:

Any comments on tyre choice? I don't drive too hard but like an occasional blast about, certainly no track use for this car, lol.

Camskill , Is good place to order for our tires.
For UK wet roads / rainfall the Uniroyals will do just fine. Just remember that you will rub them off pretty quick when its dry.
Actually I use winter tires most the time, till things warm up, ( >10 deg overnight ) Then later I leave my track tires on in Sep just to finish them off, swapping back earlier than most here to the winter ones. Our cars handling is so good that for UK road use you are unlikely to find the grip limits of summer tires until it rains , and when it does a set of Uniroyals with at least 3-4 mm tread will indeed be a very good choice. Never skimp on tires , make sure you have a newish mfg date and change them at 3mm profile.

Looks like a really nice, honest wagon.
Reminds me of this one:https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...wrx-wagon.html

Cheers.

I actually added to this thread as I have come across a few options, probably need to decide by the end of the day as the Kwifit (of all places) offer ends at midnight tonight:

Nice to see another wagon appear – looks very much like mine was when I first got it. Have made 'a few' mods since :norty:

New shoes now on (and a new caliper) treated the alloys to a couple of coats of poorboys wheel sealant as well:
