Blob Wagon Knockhill

I bought a 2004 WRX Wagon 3 weeks ago (my first every Subaru), took it up to Knockhill so I could get a feel for the car. (John (SIDC) was taking pictures so I got a few;

Loving the car so far, great to have an AWD turbo car again (I used to have an Audi S2 4 years ago)

Nice shots, good to see another wagon on track :luxhello:

Is it a standard wagon, any mods? When I first took mine on track, the first thing I wanted to change was the brakes...the standard setup soon ran out of puff.

Thanks, PPP, stock brakes with new pads. I was not hard on the brakes (no late braking), and did very short sessions (stock brakes, no oil temp gauge, road tyres etc). I wanted to feel/see what the car did on the limit, it was wet at first and dried out so a perfect day to get a feel for the car.

Do you have a build thread for your wagon?

boggissimo 06 November 2018 08:44 AM

No build thread - I didn't think I would do much to it at first, and can't bear to put it all down on paper now!

Mine is a PPP too, did suspension first (OEM setup was knocking, replaced with coilovers), then brakes (brembo all round off an STi), a few suspension bits like droplinks and ARB, strut braces etc, leather seats from an SL... and eventually did stage 1 power upgrades, running around 320 bhp now. There are a couple of really good wagon build threads, where I got most of the ideas, will dig out the links later.

Best not to add up what you spend on cars....

How are you finding the VF35? Does it work well with the 5 speed ratios?

Thanks for the links, will give me some reading.

The night I picked up the car I was all set to buy VF35, injectors, intercooler, up pipe, down pipe, fuel pump etc (Subaru parts are so cheap!) but right now am quite enjoying it as is.

I'm loving it with the POWERRRRRRRRRRR, haven't driven a 6 speed to compare it to but it works very well for me. I don't think the turbo lag is really much different from the TD04 PPP setup, starts to kick in about 3200 rpm. The main difference is it keeps pulling harder until you get to the top end. Took 6 seconds off my lap time around Silverstone, and added about 14 mph to my top speed on the Hangar straight :thumb:

Sounds good, just want to avoid something that can fall out of powerband at odd places, eg needing to downshift to first for a hairpin.

Depends how tight the hairpin is! On the Wiscombe hillclimb I was down into first, but at Silverstone no lower than second (only have footage from pre-VF35 mods).

Looks like a great wagon! Good luck with it.

You are in the same boat as me, not long got my blobeye wrx wagon and just outside Stirling too. I am also a regular at Knockhill, although only spectating (season pass holder).
