Default BMW M4

Looks nice. 450 BHP, rwd, DCT gearbox and it seems they may have actually trimmed some weight from the outgoing model

£60k though. Not exactly the performance car for the people, like it used to be. (M3)

Does it still have a fuel tank the size of a thimble?

The only downside of the M3 (and C63).

Looks great though but will still be way too heavy (they say it's trying to get close to 1500 - but how close? Can they shed over 150kgs from the outgoing M3?!)

Same price as anything similar ie C63, RS4 etc. And a 991 with less power and a few options would cost £90k

No

Had it all sorted, deposit paid etc just before Xmas, got a really good deal on a physical car. Then I had a little health scare and needed an op and so was in no mood to take delivery of a new expensive car. Turned out to be fine and nothing dangerous but by that time the car was sold.

Anyway, I've decided to wait to see what the M4 is like. I know it won't be as special as a 991 but it's £30k less and has some added practicality that would be useful.

When is your GT3 due for delivery?

Sorry to hear that mate, at least ok long term though

I have said i want a September 2014 delivery as i think my car would not be ready until second half of next year. If i get a call saying i could have it in March i would have to have a think about it as ideally i would like to get 2 years use from my 991 and a September delivery would give me more saving time........ but saying that GT3 6 months earlier than planned would be rude not to Also i'm still waiting for the GT3 RS details to be released, was hoping for some news from Frankfurt but the 918 has stole the show

There's no way you'll wait an extra 6 months for a GT3 if you don't have to

Btw, iirc you used Porsche finance to buy the 991 and I presume it was a three year deal? If so how does it work when you chop the car in early?

I might as well wait until it comes out and then see. £60k is a lot of money but then what else is there at that price (for a brand new car) that could tick as many boxes?

Final specs out.

I must say I have to applaud BMW for the effort they have gone to to save weight. One of the things that put me off buying the F10 M5 was that it had become even bigger and heavier than my previous E60 M5 (which was no lightweight itself).

With the need to change one of our cars, I'll be seriously looking at one of these.
Came very close to buying one of the last E92 M3's last week but decided to hold off for the new one.

It looks a good un.

Hey, I've never ticked that option on any of the BMW's I've had.
The main option to tick though, is the 'I'm staying in lane 3 no matter what'

I'm lost over these 4 series cars?

Or, are BMW replacing the 3 series? What's the deal?

It just seems totally bizarre to come up with a car that similar in size to a 3 series.

Nice car and all that but it just seems an odd thing to do from BMW's point of view.

The coupe version of a 3 series used to be called a 3 series coupe. Now a coupe 'based on the 3 series' is called a 4 series.

So when it comes to the M versions, the M3 is a saloon and the M4 a coupe.

Make sense?

The two door cars will have even numbers, the saloons and SUV's will have odd numbers. Superb marketing ploy by BuMW to fool those with too much money!

Oh right, so it's not actually a new platform alongside the 3 series then! Didn't really make economic sense for BMW to do what I thought was going on.

Funnily enough I've just seen a 4 series test car.

Was on the M20, came off junction 8.

Was like estoril blue, no plates and had that camo paisley vinyl over the rear spoiler and down both sides.

I really struggle to get excited about BMW's, the last decent motor they made was the Z3 M coupe and after that they just do nothing for me.

I used to like the M Division motors. Now it just seems to have been pimped out, rather pointlessly, to literally every series that they produce.

Yeah and like I said they just do nothing for me, I'd sooner have a mint 2002 for less money maybe even get a 2002 turbo, now that would make me happy.

These were exciting cars, not perfect but full of character and edge. Everything after that has been a bit boring.

They have a chance to claim some of the heritage back again with the M4, we'll see if they manage it.

I've had my E92 M3 (DCT with Comp Pack) for almost 18 months now after purchasing new. Despite the weight, it is an amazing car and noticeably superior to the B7 RS4 I had before it.
I took it to the 'ring last year and again a few weeks ago and was massively impressed with it on track - and on Autobahn .
I am planning to test drive an M4 next year and possibly swap in 2015 if I'm won over.
Other than that I do fancy a GT3 but it would have to be a 997.1 as I can't currently stretch for a newer version.

Nick
