I say forget modern diesel's if she's only doing 50 miles a week, 2.5k miles per year is definitely not diesel territory, especially with all the low mileage related problems they have, and the extra 2k purchase price buys a lot of fuel/ shoes and hand bags.
I'm sure the petrol festas get well into the 40mpg range so she'll still only use one gallon a week and petrol is cheaper than diesel, and at the rate she uses fuel the money saved will probably buy all her fuel for the next 5 years, so like she's running on fresh air.

Two of my work colleagues have/had Fiesta titaniums and have had them just over 3 years.
Overall they are not that impressed to say they are top of the range. One had a dodgy gearbox just out of warranty and Ford did not want to know. They have now bought a Vauxhall Astra and say the build quality is far superior. The other is looking to get rid and will probably also look at Vauxhall.
Also, all too common it seems with Ford they were not impressed at all with the dealerships and service after buying the cars.
HTH.
