Nissan pulsar GTI-R should I or shouldn't I?

Nissan pulsar GTI-R should I or shouldn't I?
Needed to scratch an itch that I've always liked these and how the preform as terms of power to weight ratio etc.
Ive been offered one of these for my mx5 track car https://www.scoobynet.com/other-marq...track-toy.html and just wanted to ask you guys opinion. I've never owned one so wanted to find out if they are reliable enough and is it a good deal, it's got no rust as I know that's a issue with them but what are the other things to look for?
Thanks in advance

I'd be very wary of any as they will probably have had many owners by now, and have seen many mods, and have had hard lives. SR20DET big end, head gasket, and gear box would be weak points I'd be concerned about especially.

Am like you. I have always wanted one. Keep looking at them had a 2.0 Gti when I was 19 with full original kit on. Was my fav car av owned. Ad spend the money and get an original clean example. They still exciest but are as hard to find as chickens lips.

i had one and loved it as said above the gearbox is very prone to going, also the same problem as scoobs the top mount I/C gets very hot in traffic.
Mine was runing 317 bhp on all standerd parts (did have full 5zigen system fitted) with just a EBC and mapped and had no problems with it in 2 yrs.
i would say if your going to get one spend a bit more cash and find a good low mileage one that is still standerd or go the other way and find one thats allready been forged and with recipts to prove the work was done properly.
They are a good fun can but not built very well another thing to check is that the roof is still bonded on as the have been known to come unglued.

Afaik it's not been forged as they demand good money but this one is a enthusiast owned one he's had it for 3 years just unsure tbh at any potential problems.
It's got a few mods. It's priced at just over £3k and forged ones are easily over £5k mark.
The gearbox issue is a scary one.
I'm planning on turbo ing mine and it's really reliable and the 6speed jdm box will cope with upto 300hp and the pistons will cope to about 270-280hp but I was only going for a 250hp build to be safe so I'm undecided. Aaaggghhhhh!

They are pretty reliable BUT if anything does go wrong your talking BIG bills.
IMO if your after a fun track car NOTHING beats a well set up integra type r
This was mine and you simply wouldn't believe some of the machinery I embarrassed in that thing.

Integras are nice good cars, with a sc there are mental.
Tbh I've been offered a swap for the pulsar and now it's got me going to change/look at other cars, don't know why as mine is pretty well set up car bar turbo conversion, think I'll just keep and carry on with my plans for it instead of getting all excited like a little kid and stick to my guns as a turbo mx5 well set up will be special IMO.

for a track car then (as you know) you cant go far wrong with the mx5. the only thing is that they could do with is a little more power, either a supercharger or a turbo kit. im currently in the process of persuading the old man to supercharge his. if i was you i would steer well clear of the pulsars as what has been said above is true, they munch gearbox's like tyres, handling is poor as well. the integra's however are a different story, honda reliability but quite rare. id stick with the mazda!

Always liked the GTiR but they are bloody old cars now and no doubt a potentially huge money pit, good once but confined to history now I think unless you don't mind spending the cash on restoration or lucky to find a dry stored one.

Was looking at galanzas yesterday. Mint white one in piston heads. The white one with red wheels and fully forged motor.
On a different note check out the new thread "both my

Will lighten up your evening. Tubby will have his life.

I owned a GTiR for about 7 years odd. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT TO BITS
running 380BHP and 345 Ft/lb
They are fun cars and the power delivery on them is just something else, acceleration wise off the lights even without launching it hard they will give pretty much everything a run. Immense acceleration, but as said above need a lot of parts to make them handle well.
If you wanted one as a track day car you can find one like mentioned originally and just mod it for track use. probably around about £1.5-2K
They don't need to have forged engines to be good on track, just a well set up map and decent I/E/FMIC and BRAKES and BUSHES AND BRACES

The big ends and head gasket are not weak points. Gearbox can be - but seems to be almost pot luck.
Gtirs don't handle brilliantly because they're 20odd years old with next to no development behind them.
There's still plenty of good ones out there.
As said off the line they can destroy most things. I did a 1.63 60ft in the pouring rain at Elvington many years back.
