Default Audi TT, 51 plate, 225 Quattro, clutch swap cost?

As above really folks. My step-son's car's clutch is dragging badly and it's going to need sorting out pretty soon. We've already tried bleeding the clutch cylinder and it made only a very marginal improvement. It's done 95000 miles and will be on the original one.

A bit of internet hunting has indicated we might be as well to have a new dual mass flywheel at the same time.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had one of these and how expensive a job it is. It will go to either our local garage or a clutch place, but I wanted to have an idea of how big a mortgage extension(!) we're going to need before I ring round.

Thanks for any help (and no, we're not going to scrap it - sorry!)

In case anyone ever wonders what the outcome of this was (and why on earth would you - this is a Scooby forum!), it's £480 for the clutch swap (3 bits), including labour, or just under £800 all in if it needs the DMF changing too. That's with Audi parts from 'Big John's' in Leicester.

If I ever become a hair dresser, I'll bear that cost in mind.

i was always in the mind on that the DMF needs doing everytime the clucth is changed so the garage is setting you up for a big bill, if its not changed it will eat the clutch again

Ha ha! That made me chuckle.

And I have to admit, his car history has always had a certain 'coiffeuristic' inclination running through it.

I've told the clutch place to swap the flywheel if it's even remotely iffy Ant, so thanks for confirming my thoughts.

Just to tie this up, it cost £793.74 including the flywheel and I'm very pleased with Big John's Autos of Southampton Street in Leicester should anyone else need a clutch doing.

Now, about my haircut...!

Good decision I say, if you are in there to do the DMF then change the clutch. If you are in there to do the clutch, change the DMF.
