I stand corrected !
Apologies Nik.
In general terms, most people call it the Gayman, and the Boxster.... well, you know...

Irrespective of what Clarkson said in 2006, the early jokes about its name and the way it slotted into the Porsche range at the time, the Cayman S is now regarded as a fantastic sports car in its own right, especially as the latest 911 has moved up a notch in price. The red car in the video isn't the best colour for a Cayman, has to be grey or black. But if I only needed 2 seats I'd buy an open top car.

The grey paint comes from the VW bin. Same colour as my Golf GT.

VW are the major shareholder of Porsche, and of course Ferdinand Porsche designed the Beetle.
I much prefer the Cayman or my Boxster to the 911 I had - far easier to access all the power without risking your licence.
I'm sorting a test drive in the new Cayman and I've also got a day driving the whole Porsche range back to back at the PEC - it's a big dilemma for me to change from my Boxster, even though it has its drawbacks it's still an incredible car.
Looking forward to Porsche making a new Cayman R, but no doubt that's at least 3 - 4 years away.

The 996 had issues, true - but the newer DFi engined cars seem pretty reliable at the moment (crosses fingers!)
I don't think VW have any actual input to how Porsche cars are made as yet, but I think very soon we'll see parts crossing over and more bean counters...

Good choice, really good cars.
I was going for one before picking up my widetrack. Decided I'd save £10k and have a bit of fun for a year or so, and wait for the new facelift Cayman to get cheaper

I hope they have sorted out their reliability problems. The Reliability index has them second from bottom so they cant get much worse. I think the Cayman is a fantastic looking car, especially in grey and would aspire to own one some day but Porsches renowned reliability puts me off as I would be looking at a 4 year old model.
