Merc Vs BMW
Hiya, I am considering getting rid of the Scoob as it costs quite a bit to run.
approximately 21-23mpg.
I will miss the burst of power when needed, which will be heartbreaking.
At the moment i am looking for a good powerful diesel.
2006+
Once received, I will be looking at a DPF delete, EGR blank and depending on car, possibly swirlflaps blanking and the lovely, Remapping.
The ones I have short listed are
330d, 335d from the BMW M sport range
C250 Cdi, C320 Cdi, or if affordable when the time comes, C350 Cdi (all sport range, badge in grille) Mercs.
For the Pros and Cons from what I can see are,
BM's have RF tyres, and if i replace them with non RF, i have no spare if i have a puncture,
The alloys (heard in BM forums) may be prone to hair line cracks.
I know someone who had a 325i and a X5, the 325 had an engine issue and was sold promptly., the X5 engine failed post service, on the motorway. They quoted £10k to repair, but managed to fight and covered the cost, also had another service in which costs £4k which was damaged alloys and something to do with the gear lever. last thing I heard they still have it and still have problems.
good points.. POWER!!!!!! Torque and awesome when tuned again.
Merc's confuse the hell out of me, different MPG in some of the range. source.... autotrader, and seems to have various specs in 1 model.
I cannot find many tuners and from what i can find the remaps give little gain.
the C320 cdi which i fancy gives 28mpg, and compared to the BM's similar one 330d which is about 31mpg seems like a loss.
I love the look of the Merc, but dislike the MPG of the C320, power is low on them and tuning options are so so, the C250 has better MPG, depending on which ones. but again power is 320d range
BM have the better oomph but I'm concerned about the future.
Can someone convince me on the way to go.
Anyone remapped a C250 cdi to get good results? or even a C320 Cdi and gained better MPG?
Are BM's a mine field for a reliable one?
Help!

Get an e90 330d and remap it to 290bhp/400+lbft, brilliant cars, if looked after will go on forever... i have a remapped 330d but i'm not biased honest, i average 44.8mpg in mine:-)
