OMG 996 x50
Well what can i say,
Had my 00 scooby 13 years now from new just done 37k in it and needed a new kick.
Was after a noble m12 for a couple of years but then decided i wanted something i could drive and not have to fix all the time, then discovered what a bargain the 996 turbo is so started looking for one a couple of months back.
Went 300 miles to look at a 996 turbo x50 on saturday took the cash with me,insured it and and drove it home, cant be arsed with waiting, inspections and all that stuff, its only a car at the end of the day and a supercar bargain at that, saw all the paperwork beforehand and checked it out owner took us for an hour test drive,i never drove it but knew i wanted it,same with my brand new impreza 13 years ago and still got it!!
Only wanted a tip as liked the thought of auto change and steering wheel controls along with wot constant acceleration a manual cant do but listening to the anti brigade was wondering if it was really was the right decision,i'm pleased it didnt put me off!its hard to put it into words what this thing is like and i have been driving manual turboed cars for 23 years, this thing is insane, the kick down, noise and aceleration are unreal the way it kicks down, howls and takes off just puts a grin on your face and it did 28 mpg on the way home!
The cars have no soul, character and are boring wtf is that all about? it is insane!!!
The tip is great, when driving steady it is plodding about when you start to drive it it wakes up,knows your driving style holds to the redline and is just bloody amazing, yea lets see it might wear off but for now its so good.
Jeez, sorry to rattle on but needed to tell fellow owners.

Fab cars. Ive gone from various cars, and found myself in a 996 c4. 320bhp n/a is addictive too.
Its like no other car i've driven. And certainly wakes you up to the wealth of amazing metal out there.
Great cars imho.
Yeh a ppi would have been useful - especially if theres issues with the tranmission and suspension.
Tiptronic is pretty good, and you wont suffer from ims, bore-score or rms due to it being the turbo engine
Enjoy. Loving mine - wish i'd done it years ago!

Lol Cheers guys, yea this thing is mental, the sound and kickdown is something out of this world that you can't get from a manual, took a few out for a test drive and never heard so much swearing in my life.
Need to take the scooby out back to back to compare, got a decat on the scoob and love the sound and pops and bangs but could quite easily live with the sound of the porka instead.
Pics to come when i stop driving it!!!
Cheers Paul
Will be over to 911 in the 996 bit, cheers

I had an X50 for two years.
Tbh, I found it a bit too clinical after the initial 'omfg, it's ballistic' wore off.
Much more fun was to be had in my Exige 240S with half the power, and even now in my 320hp Spyder I have a better sense of connection with the car.
That said, the turbo's a good car and not much will touch it in a straight line.
The massive 610nm of torque help!
You're very brave not having an inspection though - I bought my car off a mate who looked after it like his own child, it wanted for nothing.
It had done only 38k miles in 6 years when I bought it, but in the two years and 10k miles of ownership it cost me £6k in repairs and servicing...
eta - the turbos DO suffer from RMS issues - mine did!
That was £1200 to fix, but a very rare occurrence.

Great Car. I have had 8 911s over the years since the 70s (yes, am that old) including 3.3 Turbo, 993 Turbo with GT2 Engine and a 996 Turbo Tiptronic. Had it re-mapped to well over 500 bhp and it was super quick as well as being very civilised.
Both my sons have 996 C4S , so obviously they enjoyed 911's growing up.
Enjoy.

I thought i was old Dave ;-) still young at heart and a big kid like me i bet.
Not worried about any of the NA issues as like you said very rare, car has only done 8k with the last owner in 3 years and had just about all the associated issues done over that time brakes, tyres, heatshields, studs, rads and a few more cant remember, all the bills and stamps bar 1 bodywork inspection, gonna get the front off to inspect the rads and clean out and mesh them.
I dont seem to get really board of cars as had the scoob 13 years now and still love it,even like my banger punto jtd after 2 years, great little car so we'll just have to see on the x50,was gonna get a remap and exhaust straight away but love the sound as it is and dont find it very laggy either, so wont bother for now.
Cheers Guys

Congrats on your purchase, sounds like the honeymoon period is going well for you!! Lots of scope to crank some decent power out of it once your used to its current output too

Out of interest, was yours the tip, as i hear theyre more time consuming to work on in the rms area due to the auto-box.
Regardless, great car! Loving mine

You wont find many turbos with failed RMS (of course, I had to have one!)
Mine was a manual - cant be doing with an old slush-box.
However, a 997 Turbo S Gen 2 PDK could be a nice proposition one day.

I think Fud still has a tuned one.
Yes,polar silver, the only colour i would have, looks far better in the flesh as does the car,not a huge porsche fan, dont like the earlier ones at all but this shape looks better each time i see it and that **** end is as good as the wifes.
Cheers john,i remember a while back you were thinking of one, what have you now.
Did a fly past for the darts captain yesterday while he was at work,3 gear kick down and off it howls,he said the sound was something else when i saw him last night.
I am a lucky boy.
Cheers

I got an R35 GTR, I was very interested in a 996 turbo, especially an auto X50, but they were like rocking horse manure to find a good one at a good price at the time, and used 997 turbos were as expensive as a new GTR and just coming out of 2 year manufacturer warranty and needing things like tyres/brakes etc. I only drove a manual 996 turbo some years ago and liked it very much. Both 996 and 997 Turbo ride much better than the GTR and that would be a godsend as a daily driver. I think the 996 still looks great, your pic shows the best angle, I think the 993 looks very dated.
I really like autos with turbo engines, it sounds like you "get" them too.
