Golf gti edition 30
ED30 has uprated internals, and very nice to mod.
I've just got rid of a Golf GTI. but to get a Porsche (couldn't think of anything else that interested me - imho testament to how good the Golf is)
TBH, great car, and I will at some stage have another, but I don't like the mk6.
Very chuckable, and whilst not as *****-out fast as a Scoob, loads of fun in the twisties!

Lots of info there.
You will however, pay a premium for an ED30. The cloth interior is better (imho) than the leather, as VW can't seem to make a quality leather interior.
The stereo (even the hailed RNS510), is imho, sh1te. Just awful. I ripped the whole lot out and put in a Pioneer HU and nice speakers/sub.
respond well to a remap and milltek

Hi Dan thanks for link and advice.
Would love a Porsche gt3 one day.
Thanks
erm no.
TD170 is basically the old GTd. Even the GTi is quicker than the TD. So the ED30 will be significantly quicker.
It's close but no donut imho.
Depends though, on your requirements.

I have a gti as my daily. I personally didn't buy the edition 30 as one with the same mileage and condition was another £5k 50% more at the time.
If I was however planning to mod one I would probably would have started with the edition 30 due to the stronger engine and individuality of them
My other half has a mk5 gt tdi mapped to 180ish and there is no way it would stay with the gti never mind the edition 30

I had an ED30 - nicer spec as standard over GTi -
1/2 leather as standard
18" BBS alloys
Different rear valance (flared at ends) - colour coded as standard
Front splitter colour coded
ED30 sills trims
Should have a plaque inside the drivers door next to dash with individual ED30 number
extra bhp over standard
front mounted DV
I was getting 23mpg on my 8 mile drive to work, nice and steady and although it was nippy it felt boring as it was too smooth?
I had a problem with the EML light which turned out to be the charcoal cannister (emissions crap) which the dealer said was common and not to fill the car up to full as the fumes cause the problem????? - £120 lighter
Make sure it's had the timing belt and water pump changed at 75k (approx £275) as it was brought forward from the 125k shown in the handbook
As a guide i p/x'd my 2007 - 07 with 60k, immaculate, manual for £9k 6 months ago - most dealers were offering £7.5k

I owned a GTi for 18 months and it was a fantastic car but like already said the ED30 commands a large premium over stock GTi. If you want a comfortable daily driver with a bit of go then a stock GTi will do you just fine, its a very good all round car and can be bought for very sensible money now.
The ED30 is specced up with a few more goodies but the internals are the very same out of the S3 and as such with an exhaust and a remap people see easy 300bhp! Personally i don't like the colour coded lip spoilers compared to the contrasting black items on the stock GTi and in my head can't justify the extra money for half leather, BBS alloys and some extra paint.
I also owned an R32 this year which was sublime and the most accomplished all round car i think i have owned, i know you didn't ask about the R but it is a truly great car!
Good luck
