High mpg motorway car help me
Hi guys currently sat by the pool in Spain burnin my moobs off
Ok as you'll have seen I was lookin at a fiat panda but not done anything yet
So the task at hand is this
I'm about to be interviewed for a jOb that will net me 15 to 20 k extra
I can either use that for fuel for the Subaru or buy a low cost. Company car that does high. Mpg, current journey is 130 round trip scoobynet take Bout 28 a day to fill so looking at 120 a week. I'm leaning towards a company. Car just some low price thing that I can fill with diesel or petrol and pound the m1, not in a position to sell scooby nor do I want to as I like it,
So with the above in mind and don't forget tax at 40 percent I'll have around 8 to 12 k to spend on something
What would u all advise,I'd want automatic also and it would need to be brand new as company cars are, I dont want a second hand car I want them to fund it all and I pop fuel in so if I walk away from the job I walk away from the car too
I have toyed with a smart car diesal then looked at that Bravia one , but also a focus or fiesta Eco but have trouble getting automatics in them as it hurts the fuel consumption
Anybody advise steer me into some sub 200 a month crs. Thanks guys a burnt red ted

Will a Smart car or anything with a tiny engine be that good on the M1? I'm guessing they will be well out of their comfort zone at m'way speeds and probably suck more juice than a larger engined car which is able to plod along at m'way speeds

As above, you'd need a 1.9tdi or something for galactic MPG on a motorway, something that chugs along in comfort but not high (well diesel high) revs. I'd have thought the usual diesel eco boxes would be better than a micro car
PS. This thread DOES NOT need pikchures

Personally, I wouldn't bother going the new company car route... I'd use the extra income and get a wee Lupo TDi Sport or a MK1 Fabia vRS which would fit the bill perfectly.
However you were wanting an automatic, so a decent Golf TDi/BMW320d will serve you well and if priced correctly will not be too hard to shift on if you find the job isn't for you and need to sell the commuter.
I think you'll struggle to find something comfy/relaxing, automatic, reliable, cheap to run and buy for your budget... but will keep my eyes on this thread for the suggestions too. Good luck with the search anyway.
Cheers,
Grant

Well my little C3 (1.6 e-hdi) does me quite well, im (according to the computer) averaging over 70mpg and my last fill up to (literally) the brim, showed me a nice 76mpg (thats calculating the mpg from the litres filled up v the miles and not the trip computer), sticking to around 65-70mph though, so worth considering any of the HDI engined cars (Citroen/Peugeot or Ford TDCI 1.4 or 1.6 ltr diesel engined cars).

I think your biggest issue with looking at the ford's is the fact that the auto version diesels are like rocking horse poo, no one wants (or wanted) them, so you just cannot find them.
I think this is a bit of a bargain (note the 0% finance bit ) ok im not saying that the citroens are perfect, my little c3 is good but like the c4, its steering is over assisted (though you get use to it and dont notice it on the motorway) and my little c3 has too much body roll (but they do a DS3 which is the sporty version), but this c4 is the EGS - semi automatic (110bhp 1.6hdi too so think its £30 per year road tax), its not a bad place to be in, has pretty much everything you want, its comfy, its just practical rather than overly exciting but great for motorway miles

How is this? A friend has a company car and reckons the extra tax he pays wouldn't even cover the repayments on the same car, never mind the road tax, insurance, servicing, tyres etc.

As Tony has said, the biggest issue with the Fords is the lack of autos around but i would seriously have a close look and a Mondeo - seriously capable cruising tool and loaded with toys. :-)
Dad had a TDCi 140 which returned just shy of 50mpg although he's not one to hang around on the m'way. He now has the 200ps version which brings many smiles but i suspect mpg may suffer with the smiles

I have run a jag xf 3.0 diesel which returned 50 mpg also a fab car with plenty of grunt but may be a little over what your looking at and the other is a 2.0 dti sri zafira, its fantastic on derv thas getting anywhere between 40-50 an thas with a bit of a heavy right foot at times, not the greatest thing on earth granted, but for what it is, it pulls well and is good on the old derv plus its comfy on long runs with plenty of space for shoving **** in to

Guys at work have the 320 n 520 but at 4xx a month too much
I'll take a look at the citreons too ifi can get the monthly and fuel Into 500 a month approx I'll be ok that equates to about a 12k car tax taken into account If u negotiate more the. I'm on a winner, if I didn't have the scion I'd be more orcas looking at that new bi turbo a6
