Default Need a second more practical car - 4k budget

I'm looking to replace my current daily driver (1.2 clio) for something a bit bigger and more motorway friendly. I know 4k won't buy me much but would prefer a diesel (or a petrol I can easily get 40mpg+ out of).

I don't really have any special requirements other than that it must be reliable, a good looking car would be a plus and lots of interior toys would be nice.

Any suggestions? I really haven't paid attention to anything diesels ever before lol

A million diesel VAG cars avaiable at that price , I have a chipped Audi A6 2.5 quattro diesel at the moment and love it except the Mrs always nicks it and I have to drive the Landrover or one of my vans.

Theres no reason getting slightly sensible means you have to hang your party shoes up!

LPG scoobs arent far off diesel economys, and a loads nicer place to sit than any sh1tty little eurobox. :-)

How about a CLK 320 Mercedes, they go for silly money at the moment. Recently bought a 2001 version with AMG sports pack, 74k miles, FSH and less than £3k. All the toys you can think of (and some you maybe can't!), 30mpg on the motorway, will cruise all day at 90+, 210bhp and sub 8 sec 0-60 so plenty fast enough. The diesel version is more frugal and either is a lot less to insure than the Scoob. Pistonheads and Auto Trader has loads of them

Diesel Rover 75 which is basicly a bmw 5 series, you can get a fully loaded one for 2.5k on a 54 plate 40+ around town and 50's on mway, can be chipped/mapped to silly power too.
