Hi all

I put this up on Migweb already but just in case someone here has any ideas.
My daughter has a P reg Corsa B that has done about 83,000 miles, always very reliable. She is away ay Uni so it lays dormant for months at a time, but we try to remember to turn it over every few weeks, not always the case though. It normally starts first time.
Last week when I tried to start it, it took quite a few turns before it fired up. Then a few days later I tried it again for about 5 mins but it just turned over without starting. I asked a friend to plug his diagnostic in and it came up with P0607, he cleared it and it came back, checked battery earth, oil, ecu leads but no luck and same error code.
Strange thing is that it bump started straight away, ran fine, engine warning light went out and turned over and started again three times. Next day same problem, so now confused.
Obviously bump starting overides the condition that is preventing it starting initially, but then it started OK after that , so anyone had this happen to them?
Any help would be much appreciated as my daughter gets back from Uni in two weeks time and she aint driving my car

I'd be guessing a crank or cam position sensor. Would explain it not starting with the ign but being ok wth a bump.

Thats a main code as youve said for a lack of battery power. Check the condition of the battery and all related leads

Thought about crank & cam sensors, but it starts on its own after it has been bumped and turned off

Battery is nearly new as i replaced it at the start of this year, checked leads last night but couldn't see anything obvious.

Batteries are only any good if kept charging and discharging, so in use.
Any battery left on a car will go flat, as the car will use a small amount doing absolutely nothing.

So my advise is to give the battery a damn good charge, and then take it from there, but never let a car battery get flat.

I agree with Jimbob, above: car batteries are MEANT to be used. Lack of use means they will die.

same thing happened to my 106 !
it was left in the garage as it's sorned of the road i use to tick it over every week for atleast 15 mins so the fans would kick in wirth all the lights running aswell.

i didn't do the above for a month as was too busy with work and that!
the battery died and didn't have enough power due to being left stand still for ages with the imobilser light flashing constantly killing the battery . so now what i do is disconnect the battery at all times when nt being used for 2 weeks or more !
do exactly what the above couple post said give the battery a could charge it also might need some water or acid refilled to allow it to work again

I agree with above. Have you checked the voltage coming from the battery?

if it's starting off a bump but not off the starter then i'd say the starters lazy, it's not any of the cam or crank sensors as it'd show up any problems when it's running too.


try taking the leads off the starter and cleaning the terminals etc and refit them, also try spraying the earthpoints with wd40 too.

ps to the guy above. dont wd40 electrical connections. wd40 is a lubricant not a conductor. you get proper electrical spray for things like.
