We have a little Diahatsu Charade 1.3 1998 with an autobox. ( Controls all on the same side as the Forester). Son has it at the moment and is a sympathetic driver with it. He has told us that it kicked down into third OK but then won't go back into 4th. 1/2/3 all OK but no 4th gear. Does it sound terminal bearing in mind age of car or might it just be something simple to fix.
Any suggestions/ideas welcome.

how old is the oil in the gearbox?

 

Gearbox oil was changed as per service schedule, car work all done at Carnetix ( just down the road). Last service was 5/6k back.
