Default Those looking for cheap cars - the MG ZT?

I know a few of us have been looking round for cheaper cars at the moment with varying budgets and following a thread on another forum someone suggested the MG ZT - the 1.8T

I think the 2.5V6 is a decent enough engine but I think it can be quite costly to fix and quite thirsty. Theres some valve shenanigans that can cost a fair to bit to fix.

However, the 1.8T isn't without its issues with head gasket failure being a popular complaint. This would seem to be a £300 - £500 fix and done properly shouldn't be a problem again. It would seem mid 30s are possible on a run and not entirely slow.

I asked about parts and it would seem although MG Rover is no more there are still enough parts to keep these cars on the road.

This one particular caught my eye and although more than I would be prepared to pay if I offered £2.5K thats quite a bit of car for not alot of money.

However, this would be amusing with the Mustang V8 - I guess ford would help with engine parts?

Friend had one, the oil pump went trashing the engine it was uneconomic to repair. - he is mechanically minded and sympathetic and keeps his cars in good condition with regular servicing and check.

Wow, thats one dead engine.

However, thats the V6 which I would avoid - seems popular but too thirsty for me. Hence the 1.8T which I think is a K series engine. Apart from HGF I don't think they have too many other issues.

The chances of head gasket failure on this engine are "very likely". At least £500, more like £700, to fix, and they can go again. FYI the V6 is also K series (2.0 and 2.5)
