2001 Audi S3 oil consumption.
A friend of mine is having an issue with his S3 which is baffling him a bit. His car seems to be drinking oil like its going out of fashion. Any known reason for this? the car itself is hitting 90k mileage.
He has had the oil warning light come on on a few occasions which is bizarre as he does keep a keen eye on the oil level. I know on my car, the generally feeling is that if the oil warning light has came on then the damage is already done but I don't know jack about Audi's.

My mate has just got rid of his s3 after it costing him a fortune in repairs. In the two years he's had it the turbo went, then pretty much all the suspension failed on the mot including the front sub-frame! Then the gearbox went, ended up spending 10k in two years on top of the 7k for the car. Nice interior but I certainly didn't think much to the reliability.

I just got rid of an 56 plate S4 that used around a litre of oil every 1500 - 2000 miles.
Audi said it was normal due to the viscosity of the long life oil, also appeared to be worse when driving at high speeds for a long period.
All on private roads of course.....

That is definitely what I didn't want to hear. I know he bought the recommended oil type via an VAG specialist along with genuine filter etc and we did the oil about 2months ago along with the haldex etc. I'd say the car has covered less than 1000miles since.

Keep the oil topped up and run it until something happens i'd say. As long as there is no oil/water mix and it has power just keep an eye on it for a bit....
