Question

Hi all
A mate has a Mitsubishi FTO & has the following problem.
The battery light is dimly lit which tends to say that there is something wrong with battery or the alternator is not charging the battery. After giving the battery a charge he can start the car but the battery slowly loses all charge.

A meter was put on the battery & the charge is showing approx 13.8 volts all the time. Would this mean that the likely cause is a faulty battery ? I am assuming that because he can see 13.8 volts the alternator is charging the battery ?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
Andy.

I've had a similar problem with the Impreza recently... it was the (4 year old) battery...

For FTO advice, you could always try the FTO Owners Club.

All the best,

Simon.

Hmm, you could have a fault/ something on in the car thats causing it to drain the battery..

Try connecting an ammeter in series with the battery and see what current drain you have when everything is turned off.. any more than a few hundred milliamps means there is something draining the battery - had this once, turned out to be the boot light was on, regardless of its switch... If the drain is only a few hundred milliamps ( radio store etc ) its probably a duff battery

13.8v sounds fine...
