It lacks something, just doesn't seem quite as ground breaking on paper as the e60 M5 did at the time it was released

I think that looks fantastic! Really smart looking and not too 'shouty', but still has a very aggressive stance.

550bhp with twin turbo - that'll remap nicely to over 600bhp!

I don't like the new 5 series at all. I've give it time to grow on me like the E60 did but its just not happened.

Far too much like a 3 series although not as nice.

I like that, looks very nice. Emissions are quite low considering too.

Thanks Jim.

Just on my way home from summer hols and had these images in my email from m5 board.com.

Over on that forum they say these images are NOT official though of course they could still be real.

The power figures are weird. According to that link the m5 will have only 3hp more than the x5/x6m. However if you look at pics of the engines the m5 powerplant has much larger turbos and intercoolers than the x5m engine on which it is based. On this basis most people were expecting a bit more power.

We'll know pretty soon though!

Just looking at them pictures and I agree. It doesn't for me have that 'edge' of a powerful top of the range M car Maybe it's just that awful colour

Weight, unladen (DIN/EU) - 1870kg / 1945kg (4,122lb / 4,286lb)
Good god, when you think a 5 series can't get any heavier...this thing rolls up. Its heavier than a 740! How is that possible?

No problem.

I thought I'd let you know my mate with the C63 AMG is putting it up for sale with 2k miles on the clock.

He had a Nissan GTR but got rid as he couldn't leave it anywhere without unwanted attention, so he got the Merc. It just doesn't compare to the Datsun so he's looking for a newer GTR now. I loved the Merc but I was comparing it to my 335i not a GTR.

He seems to think he won't loose much as he got a massive discount from new. Time will tell I suppose.

Jim, as you probably know that info has been confirmed as the official car.

Many people are disappointed by the power output being only circa 550 BHP ie only 10% up on the E60.

So it will be all about the handling, driver interaction and gearbox to see whether it can take the crown of ultimate sports saloon. This time though it also has the torque to match the RS6, E63 AMG, XFR etc

Cheers

Yes, it's on BMW's website now. I'll have to see one in the flesh as it does look a bit bland for me. However, I thought the new 5 Msport also was but they do look much nicer in the flesh.

Surely 550bhp is enough, especially with the increase in torque. It hopefully will drive more like a na car rather than a turbo.

Yes I have to say it looks a tad bland. You wouldn't want to it to be too shouty as new and nearly new ones are going to be bought by a demographic that doesn't want to attract too much attention.

As you said we'll have to see one in the flesh to see if its managed the right balance in this regard.

I agree though 550 BHP seems enough, its the yanks who get obsessed by the numbers. Mainly for bragging rights I would think, especially because they wanted its numbers to exceed that fast Cadillac they all go on about.

I have had my name down for 6 months now and am somewhat dissapointed that BMW have not been in touch with me yet. I can only assume they do not as yet have any pricing models up and running.
